DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL

Médecins Sans Frontières, an international medical humanitarian association founded in 1971, provides medical aid to populations whose lives are threatened: mainly in cases of armed conflict, but also epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or exclusion from care.

MSF WACA (West and Central Africa) was created in 2019 and aims to bring a change in the dynamics of the MSF movement.

WACA is driven by a significant number of Doctors and humanitarians from Médecins Sans Frontières West and Central Africa who want to be heard, contribute and above all proactively take on the humanitarian mission of the organisation. WACA reflects a humanitarian identity, an aspiration for MSF, a truly inclusive movement of people who share the values of empathy for others. Its strength lies in the other MSF associations and its associative fibre is amplified by concrete operational objectives.

Because of the current growth from 25 HQ employees first quarter 2022 to 75 first quarter 2023, a structuration of the General Direction to support MSF WaCA development in the coming years is foreseen with the opening of the post of Deputy Director General.

Reporting Relationship:Report to the GD of MSF WaCA

Type of contract: Fixed term renewable – Two years (First Contract until June 2023)

Location/Workstation: West African Region.

MISSIONS AND ACTIVITIES

Main employment activities

Through delegation of task from the General Director, She/He will take over some of the following tasks (optional/compulsory

1. Strategic plan : concept, implementation & agility :

• Participate in the development of the overall MSF WaCA strategy (compulsory);
• Codir coordination (back up);
• Coordinate the department implementation plan (compulsory).

2. Governance (compulsory):

• Coordinate internal governance frame;
• Coordinate risk management & safeguarding frame;
• Set up Audit frame & process;
• Coordinate legal frame.

3. Coordinate regional rooting (optional):

• Registration;
• Coordinate civil society & regional authorities’ interaction;
• Support institutional com & fundraising.

4. Support MSF WaCA Set Up (optional):

• Coordinate set up Policy & process;
• Support resource department;
• Coordinate customer service & well-being.

5. Transformation (optional):

• Coordinate MSF WaCA infrastructure agility;
• Coordinate MSF WaCA way of working.

Job Profile

Qualification:

• A master’s in political science, management, humanitarian action, medical or scientific disciplines.

Experiences:

• A 5 year-experience in senior manager position in the NGO/Humanitarian sector or significant experience in a management position within MSF;
• Experience in the field within the MSF Movement in positions of responsibility is essential;
• Experience working with a Board of Directors (associative and executive role) is highly desirable.

Languages:

• Fluent French and English.
