Deputy Area representative -Program implementation – National Position

Role Purpose: Overall purpose of the role is to contribute to the development and to ensure delivery of high-quality programs for children in the country office. This involves working through the thematic program managers in the development of relevant projects that meet the needs of the beneficiaries, timely implementation of approved projects within time, with quality and within budget. Ensuring that ongoing programs are continuously monitored using the quality benchmarks and working with the program managers, technical specialists, and awards to ensure that quality reports are developed and shared with the members on time. The role is also responsible that our programs are integrated, gender sensitive and have space for the inclusion of children with disabilities. The role is responsible for the line management of thematic program managers. He/she will have functional line management with field-based consortium managers and technical specialists. The effective program management will play a key role in the expansion of Save the Children programmes to increase impact and enable positive change for children.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in a relevant academic discipline
  • Minimum 8years practical experience managing a large programme in a complex emergency as well development context, with a particular focus on [education, child protection, child right governance, health, nutrition, WASH, and livelihoods], in large international non-governmental organisation or other international relief/development body.
  • Experience of managing the programme cycle, including assessments, project design, proposal and report writing, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and reporting skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks, and responsibilities.
  • Highly developed research, analytical, monitoring and evaluation, and report-writing abilities.
  • Sound financial management skills, particularly in budgeting and reporting.
  • Practical knowledge of current thematic issues and debates in developing countries, and of the major institutional donors such as, GPE, EU, DFID, BHA, FFO and UN agencies.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication, people management and interpersonal skills in English, with experience in leading multicultural, multi-location, values driven teams.
  • Willingness to work and travel in often difficult and insecure environments.
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies
