Deputy Area Director

Community Organized Relief Effort

CORE is seeking a seasoned manager and inspiring leader with roots in the Bay Area to further build CORE’s operations in Northern California. The California Deputy Area Director will work with government, philanthropic institutions, and the private sector to develop programming focused on community-based COVID-19 testing, addressing public health inequities, climate change, and education. The Deputy Area Director will manage a dynamic staff of 35 and a $1M+ budget. The Deputy Area Director must have extensive experience in fundraising from donors and community partners, as well as having a demonstrated track record in program development and execution. This position is located in Alameda County and requires travel within Bay Area’s nine counties, as well as regular visits to Los Angeles. We require all employees to comply with our Mandatory Vaccination Policy. As a condition of employment individuals will be asked to provide proof of compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop partnerships with corporate donors, philanthropic institutions, and government at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Serve as liaison between CORE Bay Area and CORE Headquarters, advocating for CORE Bay Area to HQ, as well as overseeing implementation of HQ led policies
  • Innovate, initiate, and implement future programs and activities for CORE California, with emphasis on the Bay Area
  • Help oversee COVID-19 testing operation in concert with local partners and the Alameda County Department Public Health
  • Represent CORE with external partners
  • Be responsible for the overall management of the CORE Bay Area operations, while supporting California Area Director with broader programming across the state
  • Ensure and promote collaboration between programs in CORE California
  • Supervise CORE California senior management staff
  • Support relevant staff in developing concept papers, proposals, and budgets
  • Provide regular reports on program activities following internal CORE and external donor monitoring requirements.
  • Develop processes to improve efficiencies, communications, and structure for the area programming and in conjunction with CORE leadership
  • Perform any other work-related duties if applicable

Requirements:

  • University degree (BA required, MA preferred) in public health, social work, sociology, business administration, environmental science, international development, or a related field
  • At least 5-7 years of professional managerial experience in social services, emergency response, and/or humanitarian sector
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising and development from institutional donors and private sector entities
  • Deep roots in the Bay Area, with extensive connections to local nonprofits, government, and the private sector (with emphasis on tech)
  • Profound knowledge and respect of the communities populating the Bay Area, with demonstrated desire to improve the general welfare of vulnerable populations
  • Excellent analytical skills, observation, and analysis capacity
  • Very good knowledge of G-Suite and Microsoft Office (including MS Word, Excel)
  • Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission and vision of CORE
  • Excellent writing, reporting and communication skills o Bilingual in Spanish or another language preferable
  • A proven effective leader, problem solver with the ability to motivate others
  • High EQ, with strong sense of empathy, listening skills, and ability to work in diverse settings
  • Ability to communicate openly and maintain good relationship within the team, government and other local authorities, donor, and other stakeholders
  • Responsive, motivated, and willing to take responsibility o Ability to cope with stress and to adhere to deadlines and respect line management
  • Attention to detail and structured way of approaching tasks (well organized), and to plan ahead and result oriented (proactive)
