Job Description

As a Data Visualization and Dashboard Specialist at DFS, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing visualization tools and dashboards that transform complex datasets into actionable insights for both our clients and internal teams. Additionally, you will enhance our API and data extraction strategies to ensure seamless integration with leading data visualization platforms.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced data visualization interfaces and dashboards for humanitarian and climate action projects.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders as needed to gather requirements and translate them into impactful visualizations.
  • Implement cutting-edge visualization tools and platforms aligned with DFS’s technology stack and project requirements.
  • Contribute to developing and refining APIs and data extraction methods to optimize data source interoperability.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest trends and advancements in data visualization technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams and stakeholders, ensuring user-friendly visualization products aligned with organizational goals.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions to enhance data-driven decision-making capabilities within the organization.
  • Support DFS’s projects by providing expertise in data visualization and dashboard development as required, while contributing valuable insights and expertise to enhance data-driven components and overall effectiveness.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Proficiency in major visualization and dashboard tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Graphana.
  • Strong programming skills in JavaScript, including familiarity with data visualization libraries like D3.js, Plotly, mapping javascript frameworks, and familiarity with Python.
  • Solid understanding of API development and data management practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, UX Design, Information Technology,or related field, or equivalent related experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data visualization and dashboard creation.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python or JavaScript, and familiarity with libraries for data visualization (e.g., D3.js, Plotly).
  • Strong understanding of API development and data extraction techniques.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in humanitarian or climate sectors is a plus, with a strong commitment to social impact.

Language: Fluent in written and spoken English.

DFS staff is composed of experts from the humanitarian information management and analysis field who specialize in real-time secondary data review and build humanitarian applications that support the fast extraction of information from large volumes of unstructured data.

DFS also focuses on the creation of data-centric web applications, websites, and mobile applications to support humanitarian organizations. When building software, DFS focuses on the intersection between data automation processes powered by Artificial intelligence and human knowledge and skills, in particular when one can help the other to execute the analysis.
