Job Summary:

This is an exciting new role for a Data Protection Officer. You will be the primary point of contact for Tuath Housing Association’s employees, regulators and the public for issues relating to data protection matters and data access requests. The DPO’s primary focus will be to project manage and monitor compliance with the Association’s Data Protection Policy, GDPR, the Data Protection Acts and other European and national legislation and policies.

The suitable candidate will:

  • Inform and advise the Association on its data protection obligations and ensure compliance with data protection law.
  • Provide internal guidance and direction to support with Data Protection queries at every level and embed a GDPR compliant culture within the Association.
  • Monitor and report within the Association on data protection compliance.
  • Develop and delivery data protection training for internal departments.
  • Advise on and coordinate replies to Subject Access Requests.
  • Maintain registers for subject access requests, data breaches, external data processors and ROPA.
  • Ensure Data Processing Agreements are in place with all external data processors.
  • Ensure implementation of the Data Protection breach notification process and follow up on departmental action plans.
  • Work with stakeholders to manage the implementation of changes required for data protection compliance, e.g. upgraded IT systems & functionalities and new work practices & culture.
  • Complete reports/ submissions for the Association’s Board meetings as necessary participate on forums/working groups/committees as required.
  • Keep the Association informed of up-to-date data protection developments in the areas of core interest to the Association’s work.
  • Actively develop the relationship between the work of the Corporate Services Department and its internal customers by collaborating on projects.
  • Develop a culture of ‘constant improvement’ in compliance with specific focus on process, controls and system.

Requirements:

  • Relevant Degree and expert knowledge of data protection law and practices.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar working environment
  • Experience of training staff of GDPR awareness and keeping informed of regulatory changes
  • Experience of dealing with boards, senior management teams and regulator(s)
  • Excellent reporting skills.
  • Excellent administrative skills and ability to produce Pivot Tables, spreadsheets, presentations, and memos.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Commitment to working in a customer-focused and solution-oriented manner.
  • To participate on forums/working groups/committees as required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.
