Purpose of the Position

Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Data Governance, the Data Governance Analyst is responsible for implementation of Data Governance Program activities. The Data Governance Analyst is a hands-on role working toward successful completion of the Program’s objectives. The Data Governance Analyst contributes heavily to successful outcomes in the sphere of UMA’s Digital Transformation initiative.

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

  • Anticipated starting salary of $110,000; pay rate negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

Participates as a specialist / analyst on the Data Governance team to conduct the following activities

  • Actioning assigned activities of the Data Governance Office (DGO), such as issue intake/triage, governance tooling/platform configuration, stakeholder consultation and communication, editing policy, Data Steward engagement, process implementation, definition of standards, business terminology definitions, research and analysis of DG-related topics.
  • Takes instruction and guidance from the Sr Manager of Data Governance.
  • Technical and analytical efforts related to a Data Quality Framework, which includes data quality assessment / profiling, data quality monitoring, issue resolution, design and implementation of KPIs/metrics/scorecards.
  • Securing data assets. Engagement with the Information Security team and others on issues related to data security, data classification, compliance, audits, risk assessments.
  • Collaboration with other Data Governance members and other EDSS team members, such as Business Analysts, Technical Leads, Data Engineers, Quality Assurance testers, Scrum Masters, Project Managers, and other technical or functional specialists.
  • Implementation of practical solutions around Data Cataloging (Metadata), Data Lineage, Business Glossary, Data Quality, and Information Security.
  • Data Governance advocacy through advancement of data management best practices and concepts, fostering a culture of interaction and cooperation to support UMA’s strategic initiatives.
  • Ownership of issues through resolution.
  • Documentation of relevant information, e.g. technical specifications / diagrams / etc..
  • Knowledge and interest in MDM (Master Data Management) and related topics.
  • Knowledge and interest in Business Intelligence, Reporting, Dashboards, Analytics, and related topics.
  • Advocacy for best practices in “all-things-data”.
  • Prioritization of competing deliverables.
  • Participation in scrums and coordination with the Scrum Master.
  • Software piloting / evaluation / selection activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Support Institutional Initiatives

  • Keep current on institutional goals, objectives, and progress.
  • Engage in institutional sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Lead with courage in support of change initiatives that impact organization.
  • Manages and assists in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA.

Compliance

  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department. of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

Work Experience, Skills & Abilities

  • Significant work experience relevant to the responsibilities outlined above, particularly Data Governance.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
  • 5+ years working with enterprise data (databases, integrations, reports, files, analysis).
  • 5+ years supporting IT operations.
  • 5+ years of documentation (requirements, specifications, procedures, presentations, diagrams).
  • 5+ years in system engineering / development roles.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise systems, application integrations, data integrations.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software solutions.
  • Proficiency in communication, both verbal and written English.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc).
  • Ability to support a diverse and inclusive work environment, and to foster a collaborative, positive environment in line with UMA values.

Working Environment

  • Option of Hybrid role with significant flexibility, or Fully Remote role with only occasional, planned onsite or travel requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
  • Requires ability to travel.
  • Requires occasional bending, stooping, and squatting.
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
