Background:

Welthungerhilfe is a private, non-profit-making, politically independent and non-denominational organization that supports people living in deprivation and poverty, irrespective of the color of their skin, their religious beliefs or their worldview. WHH is working in the fields of development cooperation and humanitarian aid, relief aid, rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Welthungerhilfe operates inside Idleb, Syria since 2017 remotely from regional office in Gaziantep/Turkey through implementing partners. WHH implements projects directly inside Syria since 2018, as well.

Welthungerhilfe set up an office in A’zaz, Syria in 2018 in order to start direct implementation of projects in the fields of emergency response humanitarian and relief aid. Ever since, Welthungerhilfe has distributed food baskets, food&hygiene and agricultural vouchers in the IDP camps in A’zaz. Welthungerhilfe aims to sustain the humanitarian aid projects and increase the resilience of IDPs in the region.

Overall Role:

The Watchman will conduct the day-to-day safety and security procedures at WHH office; this includes staff/visitors/applicants entry/exit area and vehicle gates. Protect staff, office premises and equipment.

Watchmen are responsible for the external/internal security/safety of Azaz/Afrin premises. Guard is required to perform in accordance with the planning.

  • Keep up to date on the security situation in the local area of premises and the region in which it is located and transmits this information to his line manager.
  • Observe any suspicious activities inside or outside area and to report suspicious incidents immediately, to react quickly and appropriate to any emergency.
  • Conduct access control at office premises in full compliance with all Security directives, instructions, and COVID19 preventive procedures.
  • Report criminal incidents or disturbances occurring on the office premises or in the surroundings to the Officer.
  • Ensure that all entrances are locked after working hours.
  • Ensure that the premises are free weapon areas and ask with politeness and courtesy any visitors have weapons to leave their weapons at the entrance.
  • Conduct patrols and fire safety inspections as required by the Officer.
  • Ensure that security equipment is always functional; report any damage or deficiency to the Officer.
  • Endure and commit to any additional tasks maybe asked for, by the Logistic department.

Required Qualifications:

    • Position is open to Syrian nationals onlyEducation: Secondary school certificate as a minimum. – Work Experience: Minimum one year of professional experience in a similar position, preferably in a non-profit organization. – Skills/knowledge: – Experience in dealing with fires and fire extinguishers – Experience in conducting the minimum medical first aid when needed – Knowledge of applying preventive procedures of COVID19
    • Social Skills: Ability to communicate respectfully with different kinds of persons. – Language Skills: Arabic required; English/Turkish/Kurdish will be an assist.

The Watchman will be obliged to maintain confidentiality regarding all information obtained during his/her work during the employment at Welthungerhilfe and thereafter.
