Cultural Mediator (on call)

Context:

Under the general supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean and Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, and the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for supporting the activities in the framework of RELITA project, “Voluntary Relocation from Italy to other EU Member and Associated States, HOME/2019/AMIF/CA/EMAS/0128”.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Support the project staff in the provision of pre-information sessions, Pre-Departure Orientation sessions, and any necessary follow-up activities by translating from Italian into beneficiaries’ mother tongue and vice versa in an objective and impartial way;
  2. Provide cultural mediation support to pre-departure health activities (i.e. PMHA, Chest X-rays, Covid-19 tests, etc);
  3. Provide cultural mediation support to operational activities including when necessary, to movement-related activities;
  4. Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • High school Diploma;
  • Driving License.

Experience

  • At least one year of experience in the field of migrants/vulnerable people assistance.
  • Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs and/or EU Agencies would be an asset.

Skills

  • In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization; and,
  • Knowledge of Italian and European legal framework.

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the following languages: Arab/Tigrinya/Amharic/Somali/Mandinka/Bambara/Fula/Kotokoli/Wolof/Pidgin.
  • Fluency in Italian.
  • Knowledge of English and/or French is considered an advantage.
