CP Area of Responsibility Coordinator (Maternity cover)

The Child Protection Area of Responsibility (CP AoR) Co-Coordinator in South Sudan will work to ensure a well-coordinated, strategic, adequate, coherent, and effective child protection response in accordance with the Principles of Partnership and to strengthen system-wide preparedness and technical capacity to respond to humanitarian emergencies and achieve maximum coverage, quality and impact for children. The CP AoR Co-Coordinator works closely with the CP AoR Coordinator at UNICEF and is responsible for providing leadership, strategic guidance, oversight and governance of the CP AoR members and CP Technical Working Groups to enable CP partners to respond effectively to the protection needs of South Sudanese children.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • A child protection professional with a Master’s degree in child protection, law, social work or other relevant field, or a BA degree programme with but extensive CPiE and CP AoR Coordination is acceptable
  • Minimum of 5 years’ of work experience in protection/child protection in humanitarian, emergency settings
  • Previous experience in emergency response coordination is essential (e.g. clusters, AoRs and/or sectors).
  • Previous experience in advocacy and in the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanisms (MRM) an asset.
  • Good knowledge of international human rights and humanitarian law, particularly concerning protection of IDPs and refugees.
  • Good knowledge of and experience in using inter-agency standards and guidelines on Child protection, including international legal framework with a focus on IDPs and refugees issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A high level of written and spoken English.

Contract Duration: 6 months

Location: South Sudan, Juba Office.
