An exciting opportunity has arisen at Clumber Park for a Countryside Manager to join us on a 12 month fixed term contract from March 2024 to February 2025. You will lead the Countryside team to implement our LON strategy and portfolio business plan and you will join the Portfolio Leadership Team contributing to the overall leadership and success of the North Nottinghamshire Portfolio which includes Clumber Park and Mr Straws House.

This is a 12 month fixed-term contract, which could be a great secondment opportunity. We would encourage you to speak to your current manager to discuss if this is something they would allow.

What it’s like to work here

Clumber Park is a beautiful expanse of parkland, heath and woods covering more than 3,800 acres. Clumber was once the country estate of the Dukes of Newcastle. Although the house was demolished in 1938, there are many glimpses of its grand past to explore. From the Gothic-style chapel, often referred to as a ‘Cathedral in miniature’, you can follow in the footsteps of Dukes through the peaceful pleasure ground to the Walled Kitchen Garden where you can experience sights, scents and a taste of the past

What you’ll be doing

An active member of the Portfolio Leadership Team, you will be the operational and strategic voice of LON and contribute to the overall success of North Notts Portfolio. You’ll line manage and lead the Countryside team and active volunteers. Implementing the LON Strategy and delivering the LON elements of the Portfolio Business Plan.

You will manage a number of internal and external contracts and relationship and represent the National Trust for North Nottinghamshire regarding all things LON.

You’ll be a Portfolio Duty Manager on a rota along with other PLT colleagues which will include some weekend working.

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you have

  • Strong understanding of nature conservation within a Grade I Listed Park & Garden and Site of Special Scientific Interest
  • Working knowledge of common land and public land management and land use
  • Ability to lead large and diverse teams, and ability to engage multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Project and budget management and delivery skills
  • Ability to demonstrate leading change and delivering results within a nature conservation setting
  • Effective negotiating, influencing and communication skills
  • A desire to make a difference, show initiative, and work towards a sustainable future.
