PSI South Africa Health Solutions (PSI SA HS) is PSI’s local affiliate in South Africa. Since 2001, Population Services International South Africa Health Solutions (PSI SA HS), formerly Society for Family Health, has supported the Republic of South Africa in addressing the HIV epidemic, through voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC), delivery of community-based HIV testing services, linkages to care and treatment, and condom promotion and provision. PSI SA HS generates market insights and leverages those to co-create solutions that respond to consumer and stakeholder needs and preferences, in areas including universal health coverage, health system strengthening, primary healthcare, e-health, and assisted self-care.

PSI seeks an experienced, visionary and creative leader in public health and development to act as its Country Representative (CR) in South Africa. The CR will have full programmatic and financial responsibility for PSI SA HS’s existing heath projects, as well as execute PSI SA HS’s strategy in South Africa. Focused on implementing the work of today as well as building for tomorrow, the CR should have extensive expertise in winning and managing large, donor-funded awards, as well as a bold and creative approach to developing new lines of funding. Experience across multiple health areas is a plus, particularly sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as primary care. The CR represents PSI SA HS to government, key stakeholders and donors, and will play a coordinating role for various other initiatives PSI is undertaking in South Africa. The CR also supports staff growth; develops new business opportunities; ensures contract compliance; manages financial, administrative and logistical resources; prepares and executes budgets, marketing plans and work plans; ensures adherence to PSI minimum standards; and assures the effective implementation of the program overall.

Responsibilities

Your contribution

You will be responsible for the overall development, management (financial, administrative, and programmatic), and representation of PSI SA HS’s activities in South Africa. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Leadership of a senior management team including departmental heads of team responsible for: program management, health systems strengthening, social enterprise; strategic evidence and research; finance & administration; business operations and human resources.
  • Oversight of all projects in platform portfolio, including achievements of program deliverables and targets and spending;
  • Development of annual marketing and operational plans together with longer-term strategic plans;
  • Fundraising for existing and new activities;
  • External relations and positioning of PSI with NGO partners, donors, government, NGO, and commercial entities;
  • Oversight of internal controls and accountability mechanisms; and
  • Program development, including further innovation within existing program areas and expansion into new areas;
  • Demonstrate and promote an ethical environment, in line with PSI’s values of honesty and acting with integrity;
  • Develop and maintain systems that ensure the safety and security of the team and PSI assets in all aspects of its work according to best practices, PSI operating standards and field realities;
  • Strengthen staff competency and develop management capacity
  • Support diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of PSI’s work.
  • Liaise with the Global Security Department and Deputy Regional Director on crucial events, high-risk periods, incident reporting and security policy changes**Qualifications**

What are we looking for?

The basics.

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience; with minimum of eight years senior leadership experience in at least one African country
  • Relevant post-graduate degree (MBA, MIA, MPH, etc.) or equivalent experience;
  • Significant fundraising, personnel, operational and financial management experience preferably in complex operating environments.
  • Demonstrated strengths in strategic organizational leadership;
  • Knowledge of international development and health issues;
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor staff;
  • Familiarity with the international donor community;
  • Experience working in fragile states and/or situations of political sensitivity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and cultural sensitivity.
