Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss organisation for children’s aid with Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. Since 1960, Tdh has helped build a better future for deprived children and their communities, making an impact with innovative and sustainable solutions. Active in around 40 countries, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement field projects which improve the daily lives of over 4 million children and members of their communities, in the domains of health, protection and emergency relief. This engagement is financed by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.

Context :

As a representative of the Foundation in Bangladesh, the Country Representative (CR) leads and manages the team, the partnerships, all programmes carried out in the country, and ensures its funding coverage. The CR will be responsible for implementing the strategic development and implementation of Terre des hommes programs in Bangladesh.

In collaboration with the headquarter, the CR is responsible of the definition of programs, projects, operational and institutional strategies, in line with Tdh’s global, regional strategy and policies. The CR has direct managerial responsibilities for and supervision over the program staff based on the organization’s organigram and oversees the overall financial and administrative management of the delegation.

Responsibilities :

Operations :

  • Ensures effective, efficient and high-quality implementation of programme activities within the delegation
  • Ensures and leads a smooth merging process of Bangladesh delegation teams working on emergency and development programs, with the aim to integrate the two approaches in the same strategy at country level

Program development and Fundraising :

  • Lead the creation of the intervention strategy for the country and its implementation, in collaboration with the region and Headquarters, ensuring the country action plan and strategy are in line with the Tdh’s global strategy.
  • Coordinates the development of the Programme including developing project proposals and achieving fund raising results.
  • In coordination with the Headquarters, directs the fundraising and the negotiations with funding partners present in the area of intervention.

Project Implementation:

  • Ensure the quality of projects in terms of planning, monitoring, implementation and partners’ management, impacts, efficiency and reporting, in line with Tdh standards and with donors’ requirements.
  • Controls the application and supervision of signed agreements between Tdh and its partners and local/national authorities.
  • Supervises the correct financial management of the delegation and the funds provided for it.

Human resources management :

  • Ensures the professional development and coaching of any collaborator under their responsibility, from the recruiting to the final collaboration reports.
  • Uses good practices so that their management respects the values of Tdh.
  • Applies and ensures the implementation of staff management policies within the delegation.

Representation and networking :

  • To represent Tdh (also legally) and promote the globality of its mandate in the countries of intervention.
  • To establish and maintain good representation of Tdh delegation with relevant forums, Government bodies, technical work groups, NGOs, INGOs, and with Donors in Bangladesh.

Coordination :

  • Ensures the correct flow of operational information within the delegation, with the Region and with Headquarters.
  • Fosters the correct communication and visibility of the projects and the foundation.
  • Ensure for the implementation of policies on Safeguarding, Security, Child protection, Fraud prevention and Gender & Diversity and any other Tdh’s or Donors policies.

Profile :

Education :

  • Master’s degree in Management, Development Studies, Social Sciences or related discipline(s)

Experience :

  • Demonstrated experience in developing networks and building alliances.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior management position / similar position.
  • Experience of managing a big team.
  • Experience of managing development programming, advocacy, humanitarian and other interventions within an INGOs.
  • Experience of working with institutional and private donors.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection, Migration, Health, WASH and Emergency Response programs.
  • Experience in successfully managing various forms of partnership with National and International NGOs.
  • Successful track record of developing development and humanitarian strategies and securing high levels of funding from institutional donors (EC, DFID, USAID, ECHO; UN; etc.).
  • Extensive project management experience (management; planning; staff development and training skills).

Competences :

  • Strong team leadership qualities.
  • Capacity to work independently and under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills; Excellent oral and written skills in English. Bangla and French an asset.

Salary :

Expatriate contract under Swiss regulations between CHF 5’108.- and CHF 6’422.- net /month according to experience x 13 times, Vacancy: 25 days annual leaves local accommodation and transportation, Health insurance, accident and medical repatriation insurance, return flight.

  • Commits to respecting Risk Management Policies including: Safeguarding Policies (Child Safeguarding Policy, Policy on the Protection against Sexual Exploitation and the Directive on Staff Misconduct at the Workplace), Safety and Security Policy and Anti-Fraud/Corruption and Prevention of the Financing of Criminal Activities Policies
  • Commits to reducing the risk of abuse and harm by developing a culture of open and informed leadership within the organization and in our work with children and the communities in which we intervene in.
