Malteser International first began working in Myanmar in 1996, implementing small scale relief projects with local partners, and it has been active with its own staff in the country since 2001. Today, Malteser International employs 250 national staff in Rakhine, Shan, and Kayin States, where our work aims at ensuring communities have access to primary health care services. We also offer comprehensive WASH and disaster risk reduction/climate change adaptation solutions and provide relief after disasters. We strive to enable and empower the most vulnerable communities in marginalized areas through a participatory and sustainable approach. Malteser International also implements programmes jointly with various national partner organisations.

For its work in Myanmar, Malteser International is looking for a motivated Country Program Coordinator (CPC) to coordinate, lead and supervise the country-wide program implementation and development.

As the Country Program Coordinator, you will oversee the provision of strategic direction and the development of the country portfolio and provide overall leadership and effective coordination to the Country Program Team (Country Technical Coordinators and MEAL) in Yangon and the Program Coordinators in the locations. The CPC forms the Country Management Team (CMT) together with the Country Representative.

Your responsibilities:

  • Strategic development of Country Program Portfolio – Coordinate and manage the overall planning and strategic direction of Malteser International’s country program and set country priorities in close coordination with the CMT; provide strategic management and leadership of Malteser International operations and staff, ensuring and maintaining compliance with Malteser International vision and mission as well as ensuring quality of work
  • Country Program Coordination – Organise and coordinate support for Program and Project Teams; ensure the implementation of established systems and standards for monitoring and evaluation of programs/projects; arrange regular, documented Program/Project Team meetings to discuss and plan program objectives and to improve the exchange on best practise and lessons learned
  • Management of the Country Program Team and thematic focal points in CO and project locations – Build and maintain a strong and effective working relationship with and directly supervise the Country Program Team members as; arrange regular, documented Country Program Team meetings
  • Networking and Donor Liaison – ensure participation of Malteser International in relevant coordination mechanisms, meetings, conferences, and technical working groups based on our strategic profile in the county; identify new and maintain existing relations to in-country donors and undertake all in-country negotiations related to programming and contracts in close coordination with the Country Representative
  • Regular visits to the program locations are expected

Your profile:

  • International work experience of at least 7 years; work experience in Myanmar is an asset
  • Strong program background in humanitarian settings and/or complex emergencies and familiarity with one or more of the main sectors of MI’s work in Myanmar
  • Experience with the mainstreaming of quality standards (knowledge management, gender, inclusion, FRM, people centredness, MEAL etc.)
  • Familiarity with donor standards and requirements (mainly German Donors, UN and GFATM)
  • Experience in the management of staff and large multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of operational aspects of programs (Log and Finance) desired
  • Team Player, stress resistant, culturally sensitive

What we offer:

  • Start Date: 01.04.2022
  • Duty Station: Yangon, Myanmar with regular travels to Malteser International’s program sites
  • Duration of contract: two years
  • Salary according to qualification and experience, insurance package
