Global Network of People living with HIV

Background

The Love Alliance is a five-year programme (2021-2025) committed to protecting, promoting and fulfilling sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) globally, unifying people who use drugs (PWUD), sex workers (SW), LGBTIQ+ and people living with HIV (PLHIV) movements, and amplifying the diversity of voices in these communities. Funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Love Alliance brings together national thought leaders GALZ, SANPUD and Sisonke, regional grantmakers UHAI EASHRI and ISDAO, with the Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+) and the Netherlands-based administrative lead Aidsfonds.

The Love Alliance is working towards a significant reduction in HIV incidence by influencing policies, organizing communities, and raising awareness on rights and health in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

Summary of the roles

Two Country Focal Points (one each in Egypt and Morocco) will be responsible for identifying, connecting and mobilizing individuals, networks and organisations led by people living with HIV, people who use drugs, sex workers and LGBTQIA+ in Egypt, Morocco and region-wide. The Country Focal Points will promote cross-movement collaborations and advocacy capacity strengthening on SRHR-related advocacy issues. Hence, Country Focal Points are expected to implement national and subregional movement building and advocacy activities.

The Focal Points will be the main liaison between GNP+’s Senior Programme Officer, Senior Finance Officer and grantees in Egypt, Morocco and in the region, ensuring the implementation and monitoring of grants in the region.

The ideal candidates bring a deep understanding of the political context and about social movements in Egypt or Morocco. organising, and experience working with diverse networks and key-populations’ rights and social justice allies. They are able to identify strategic opportunities to move key-population agendas forward, to build cross movement collaboration and document the work to serve internal and external communications/reporting.

Movement Building and Advocacy

  • To identify, connect and mobilise organisations, networks and advocates from the communities of people living with HIV, people who use drugs, sex workers and LGBTQIA+ in either Egypt or Morocco, remotely as well as on-site as required.
  • To lead the organisation of national movement building meetings and support the organisation of regional policy summits.
  • To support organisations and networks led by people living with HIV and key-populations to develop common advocacy goals and messages.
  • To identify and create opportunities to advance key advocacy messages via relevant national and international processes and structures, one-off events, social media, etc.
  • To support the development of a system to track advocacy actions and to monitor their impact.
  • To support GNP+ and Love Alliance’s global advocacy by identifying advocacy messages and priorities from communities in Egypt and Morocco.
  • To provide reports and expenditure information as needed to relevant members of the Love Alliance team.
  • To support interactions and cooperation with other Love Alliance members
  • To undertake other work in support of the Love Alliance as and when required.

Grantmaking

  • To work closely with the Senior Programme Officer and Senior Finance Officer to implement kick-off briefings and workshops with selected grantees in both countries.
  • To support grantees’ capacity assessment and the identification of technical support needs
  • To support communication between Senior Programme Officer, Senior Finance Officer and grantees.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience of civil society advocacy / campaigning in the target country (either Egypt or Morocco)
  • Experience of working with or for PLHIV or key population groups/networks in Egypt and Morocco is essential
  • Experience of managing partnerships or coalitions, including demonstrated understanding of group dynamics and potential areas of conflict
  • Proficiency in the use of social media and other mobilization tools
  • University degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office packages and encrypted communications applications and systems

Personal Qualities and Skills

  • Strong written and spoken English skills. Candidates applying for Egypt Country Focal Point must also speak fluent Arabic; candidates applying for Morocco Country Focal Point must also speak Arabic and/or French
