Country Director, Angola (based in Luanda with regular travel to Luena)
The starting salary package for this position is £64,224 GBP / approx. $74,209 USD including all allowances.
Please note, this renumeration package will be effective from the 1st January 2023. Should a candidate start with MAG before this, we will discuss the details as part of the appointment process.

About the Angola programme:
MAG has been active in Angola for more than 20 years, clearing landmines and other explosive remnants of war. The programme currently operates in the east of Angola in Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte provinces. Landmine clearance operations are focussed in Moxico, some of the poorest and most marginalised communities in the country. Our focus is to improve the security and wellbeing of these communities by returning safe land for productive use. We also deliver Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) projects. We are seeking to recruit a Country Director, based in Luena with frequent travel to Luanda, to lead MAG’s programme.
About the role:
Reporting to the Regional Director you will be responsible for the effective integration of strategic, programmatic and operational management in compliance with contractual obligations and MAG’s mission and mandate. You will have a wide variety of strategic responsibilities including contract management, donor liaison, business development, people and change management, security management, capacity building, and risk management. This senior role will provide you with the opportunity to use your people management skills, leading a large team of staff operating across a varied environment. You will also have the opportunity to use your skills in stakeholder management, to take a leading role in donor development, identifying funding opportunities in a demanding donor environment
About you:
You will have extensive experience working overseas at a senior management level in large-scale humanitarian or development programmes. It is essential that you have strong programme and people management skills, with experience of managing large scale, multi-year projects, ideally from project design through to contract delivery. You will need to have experience of leading, maintaining and where necessary introducing, engagement, safeguarding and equity, diversity and inclusion strategies within the programme cycle. You will also need demonstrable skills in people and financial management, as well as previous experience working overseas in complex political environments that require tact, sensitivity and relationship-building skills. Previous experience in the mine action sector is highly desirable, however we welcome applications from experienced managers from any development sector.
Portuguese language skills are desirable but not essential.
