Do you have knowledge and experience of international human right obligations in Sri Lanka?

JOB PURPOSE: As part of this consultant role, you will be supporting the reactive and research needs of Amnesty International, in response to the human rights needs of people during an economic crisis that is currently being experienced in Sri Lanka. The proposed duration of this consultancy is 6 months, working 10 hours per week, with an hourly rate of £30.00.

ABOUT YOU: You will have a strong understanding of the international human rights law framework, specifically on economic and social rights. It is imperative that you have a strong understanding of the international and domestic human rights obligations in Sri Lanka, and be fluent speaking in English, Tamil and/or Sinhala.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: • Support the project team, with a view to investigating the human rights concerns impacting people in Sri Lanka due to the ongoing economic crisis • Coordinate with the project team and support and manage the evidence gathering, consultations, interviews and triangulation of data including on women and girls and other vulnerable groups who are disproportionately impacted by the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. • Proactively identify opportunities to investigate human rights abuses faced people in Sri Lanka with a view to research and investigations to inform Amnesty’s policy recommendations, advocacy and campaigning.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: • Strong technical understanding of the international human rights law framework on economic and social rights along with a strong understanding of the international and domestic human rights obligations in Sri Lanka. • Contacts and networks with civil society groups and human rights defenders as well as other stakeholders working on the human rights impact of the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, and ability to independently collect evidence, survey secondary sources and prepare a written outputs that meets Amnesty’s requirements and research standards. • Demonstrated experience of carrying out remote and in-person field investigations on economic and social rights issues and producing high quality outputs, and ability to work independently.
