Position Title: Consultant – Instructional Designer

Context:

Project Context and Scope

A professional Instructional Designer to design and develop learning and practicing experiences. The goal is to facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner by designing and creating e-learning courses based on practical and scenario-based activities. Also, assess options for deploying Virtual Reality into L&D self-paced training.

Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing:

Under the direct supervision of the Multimedia Editor, the Instructional Designer will perform in Staff Development Unit which is under Human Resources Department in IOM.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Tasks to be performed under this contract

a) Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.

b) Developing the audio/video script of the course and instructional text.

c) Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs. d) State instructional end goals and create content that matches them.

e) Evaluate end goals after launching the project.

f) Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods.

g) Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education, experience and/or skills required

Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience; or University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology;

• Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.

Skills

• Lesson and curriculum planning skills;

• Basic knowledge on Learning Management System (LMS) and Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) files;

• Solid knowledge of course development software like iSpring and Articulate 360;

• Visual design skills (Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard;

• Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts;

• Excellent writing knowledge in English. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish a distinct advantage.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

For this consultancy, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

The consultant must adhere to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Data

Protection Principles (IN/138) and maintain confidentiality.

The consultant will be responsible to follow IOM writing guidelines and latest glossaries in all given assignments for accurate translation.

Competencies will be assessed during a competency-based interview.

• The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.

• Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances. Subject to certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be required for individuals hired on or after 15 November 2021. This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
