We develop and oversee programs to strengthen public health systems and address leading causes of morbidity and mortality, providing expertise in project implementation and management, strategic communications, epidemiology and surveillance, and other core public health capacities. The Position

This consultancy will support our childhood lead poisoning prevention program in partnership with UNICEF Indonesia and will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The selected candidate’s work will be guided and overseen by Vital Strategies and involve directly with the Ministry of Health of Indonesia (MOH), local Health Agencies, health care facilities, UNICEF, and WHO. The selected candidate will report to Vital Strategies’ program director and coordinate with UNICEF Indonesia staff.

Duties

  • Serve as technical lead for the advocacy of WHO clinical management guidelines of exposure to lead and its adaptation for the creation of a national guideline
  • Provide technical assistance in the formulation and design of national clinical management guidelines for exposure to lead with an additional focus on children and caregivers
  • Support local capacity development in pilot districts to implement the guideline within healthcare delivery systems, including in collaboration with the other public health system strengthening programs, as appropriate.
  • Undertakes field visits for capacity development activities and participation in programmatic meetings with government counterparts and other partners.
  • Adapt training materials to address the skillsets and roles of clinicians, including physicians, nurses and community health workers.

Qualities and Qualifications

  • Medical practitioner and/or master’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, International Health, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, or Maternal/Paediatric Health;
  • Advanced familiarity with government-led health systems including public health management and processes for guidelines development is a must; understanding of health surveillance systems (e.g., Riskesdas, etc.) is an asset;
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in the field of public health and/or health services including with the Government of Indonesia. Experience in developing and delivering trainings on clinical care guidelines is essential. Familiarity with the management of lead exposure from the health perspective is an asset;
  • Ability to work in an international and multi-cultural environment, experience working in/for international organizations is an asset;
  • Pro-active and resourceful, excellent communication skills for advocating, liaising and negotiating with international and national counterparts and partners;
  • Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia for drafting reports and guidelines, making and delivering presentations, and communicating with government counterparts and international partners;
  • Good skills in computer applications especially Word, Excel and Power Point.

Additional Requirement(s):

  • The consultant shall familiarize him or herself with “WHO guideline for clinical management of exposure to lead” published by the World Health Organization in 2021 prior to applying (guideline is available on the WHO website: https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240037045
  • Local travel within Jakarta and trips to two districts in Java Island (TBC) over the period of assignment and other designation as determined appropriate.
