TERMS OF REFERENCE: CONSULTANT TO ASSIST IN THE FINALISATION OF A MENTAL HEALTH AND PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMMING MODEL/TOOLKIT, TARGETING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS AS KEY FOCUS AREAS, TO IMPROVE THE COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL’S PSYCHOSOCIAL ENVIRONMENT.

Description of Service:

Consultant to undertake the documentation of the approaches utilised in South Africa, Eswatini and Uganda to address and prevent gender-based violence and improve access to and knowledge of sexual reproductive health and rights into a final model/toolkit.

Expected start date: 14 November 2022

Expected completion date: 16 December 2022

Background

REPSSI has been conducting a project in communities in South Africa; Eswatini and Uganda since 2019 which aims to contribute towards reducing gender-based violence in Eastern and Southern Africa by December 2023. A key part of reaching that objective is also improving access to sexual reproductive health and knowledge around reproductive rights for children and youth. REPSSI wishes to document the different approaches used to achieve this objective in each of the three countries and document these and their learnings into a model/toolkit that can be shared with other organisations for their utilization and to scale up the reach of the interventions for greater impact.

Assignment Summary

Aim of the documentation and model development process

To produce a model/toolkit highlighting the approaches used in South Africa; Eswatini and Uganda in preventing and addressing gender-based violence and increasing access to and knowledge of sexual reproductive health and rights for children and youth.

Scope of this assignment/detailed activities and tasks

  • The consultant is required to liaise with the three country offices through which this work in being conducted.
  • S/he will review the documents provided by the South Africa; Eswatini and Uganda country offices and the Regional office on their approaches to addressing and preventing gender-based violence and improving access to and knowledge of adolescent sexual reproductive health and rights for children
  • S/he will conduct qualitative interviews/focus groups with the staff in the three country offices (can be remote) conducting this work to determine the key elements of the projects, which will form part of the final consolidated model.
  • S/he will take the information and learnings from the three country programmes and consolidate it into one document outlining the model of REPSSI to address and prevent gender-based violence and improve access to adolescent sexual reproductive health and rights for children and youth.

Outputs/deliverables

This assignment has one deliverable:

  • A document which demonstrates the consolidated approaches to addressing and preventing gender-based violence and improving access to and knowledge of sexual reproductive health and rights for children and adolescents in South Africa; Uganda and Eswatini as per the provided outline.

Duration of Assignment

The duration of this assignment is one month.

Qualifications:

  • University degree (Ph.D. or Masters) in Social Sciences or Public Health or Community Psychology
  • Minimum of 8 years in Child Protection, Adolescent HIV and SRHR; Mental Health and Psychosocial Support of children and youth; Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning.
  • Strong knowledge of children’s sexual and reproductive health and rights and the situation of children affected by HIV
  • Strong knowledge of how children, youth and their families are affected by gender based violence
  • Strong knowledge of community-based approaches
  • Knowledge of the mental health and psychosocial support needs of children; youth and their support systems
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
