MESPT and other consortium partners are implementing the Low hanging fruit for youth employment in Kenya – a two-year project to improve the productivity and market access of three key fruit value chains (mango, passion fruit and pineapple) and other complementing complimenting enterprises in Kwale, Kilifi (and Mombasa). The project seeks to address specific challenges to create scalable solutions for more and better jobs for youth. MESPT’s will offer enterprise development support through the provision of business development services to target project participants/ beneficiaries. The aim is to empower youth and women entrepreneurs through business modeling, mentorship, coaching, and incubation, with a primary focus on job creation and economic growth for youth and women in the coast region.

The project’s main goal is to strengthen enterprises along the three value chains thereby creating an enabling environment for job creation. The business case model will employ an end-to-end user approach incorporating interventions from the supply (increased quality consistent produce- production) through to the demand side (processing of the fruit to purees and concentrates and engagement of distributors/retailers who later process juices to the end user).

The implementing partners include Ripple Effect Kenya – the lead organisation (to work with farmers for consistent quality supply of fresh produce), MESPT (for building capacity and for the provision of business development services), Yielder (to digitize content and support of provision of blended learning) and Feast Foods (a fruit processing plant, the key off-taker and a source of products to support youth employment).
