Consultancy on Simultaneous Interpretation During 2half Day Learning Event in Mogadishu 20th and 23rd June 2022

Background of the Assignment

The Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS) is planning to conduct two half day hybrid events in Mogadishu on the 20th and 23rd of June, 2022. The learning event planned to take place at Peace Hotel, will convene a number of key stakeholders including authorities, UN/NGO, local actors, research practioners, DACs and etc mainly focusing key discussions, and learning on improving people-centered approach to finding solutions for the displaced affected communities in Somalia.

The learning event will aim to increase awareness among practitioners, policy makers and researchers on ways of promoting the voice of affected communities in addressing their displacement and addressing barriers to labour market access for displaced communities as a path to self-reliance

Objective of the service required

The purpose of this bidding is to have a Short-Term Agreement (LTA) for a period of two half days during the learning event. The successful bidder is expected to provide simultaneous interpretations for all sessions during the two days. The languages to be used during this learning event are English and Somalia.

Scope of the expected output

The service provider will support ReDSS with providing simultaneous interpretation from/into the 2 languages, English and Somali. The service provider’s duties and responsibilities include the following:

• The service provider is expected to arrange all logistical aspects involving all travels, accommodation, ground transportation, visa and necessary machinery, tools towards the realization of adequate, good and quality interpretation.

• The service provider must coordinate and manage all simultaneous interpretation to the highest standards possible during the workshop. He/she should prepare himself with the terminology and vocabulary used by ReDSS in a standard durable solution training.

• Demonstrate flexibility and provide solutions, in case that sessions exceed their regular duration in order to continue interpretation without interruption.

• The service provider should be physically present in Mogadisho at the workshop venue, and upon request and receipt of duly authorized instruction from ReDSS, confirm availability and be punctual in the 2-day workshop earlier than participants.

• Payments shall be made based on the certification of satisfactory performance.

Required skills and experience

• Fluency in Somalia and English, with at least a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in providing simultaneous interpretation and translations related to issues of displacement and related thematic areas in Somalia – including accountability to DACs engagement and labour rights.

• The service provider must possess all tools and necessary capacity to accomplish all the tasks related to simultaneous interpretations.

• Past experience in providing simultaneous interpretation services to UN/NGO agencies, development organization or research institutions.

• Practical experience using online interpretation platforms such as team, Zoom is an added advantage.

• University degree or equivalent in languages, Social Science, Development communication or any other relevant subject.

Duration of Assignment

The activity will be conducted on June 20th and 23rd in Mogadishu for two Half days.

Proposal Evaluation

For the award of this project, the evaluation criteria below will govern the selection of offers received. The evaluation is made on a technical and financial basis.

Technical qualifications (100 %)

Documented with the filled-out Supplier Registration Form and present a strong portfolio with at least two past similar assignments and a technical proposal showing a good understanding of the assignment

• Proven ability to carry out the required tasks by demonstrating similar tasks and equipment prowess. (30%).

• Interest in supporting and working with a diverse group of staff during the implementation of the activity (30%)

• Have the required equipment for the task and ability to travel to Mogadishu for the events. (30%)

• Adaptability to the needs of the members and CMU (10%)
