CONSULTANCY FOR TRANSLATING AND BUILDING CALP’S MARKETS E-LEARNING COURSE IN SPANISH

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The CALP Network is a dynamic global network of over 90 organizations engaged in the critical areas of policy, practice and research in humanitarian cash and voucher assistance (CVA) and financial assistance more broadly. Collectively, CALP members deliver the vast majority of humanitarian CVA worldwide.

What makes CALP unique is its diversity. CALP members currently include local and international non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies, the Red Cross/Crescent Movement, donors, specialist social innovation, technology and financial services companies, researchers and academics, and individual practitioners.

Together we seek to better meet the needs and improve the outcomes for people affected by crisis. To do this we ensure that CVA is a central, scalable component of quality, timely and appropriate humanitarian assistance, and that the need to sustain positive outcomes for people over the longer term is considered.

We envision a future where people are enabled to overcome crises with dignity, by exercising choice and their right to self-determination. This helps to sustain their well-being over time.

To do this we catalyze the power, knowledge and capacities of our diverse global network, alongside other local, national, regional, and global actors, all of whom are seeking to secure better outcomes for people living in crisis contexts. Our role as a collective is to generate alignment in the approaches and actions of those within and across our network, to help optimize the quality and scale of humanitarian CVA.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

To translate and re-build the CALP/MIC Markets e-learning course into Spanish

Specific Objectives:

1. To extract text from the English course and translate it into Spanish
2. To duplicate and build the courses in Spanish using Articulate 360/Storyline/Rise

CONSULTANCY RATIONALE

CALP has several e-learning courses available on the Cash Learning Hub on Kaya as well as on other platforms. CALP regularly updates and re-publishes these courses, including translating them into other languages. This consultancy is specifically focused on translating and building our new markets course into Spanish.

These courses have been built in a combination of Articulate 360 and Rise and would need to be duplicated and built in the same software.

The courses are made up of the following components:

Each SCORM is approx. 30-45mins in length.

Markets Course:

8 SCORMS (approximately 4 hours of learning)

Approximate word count for the full course = 50,000 words

OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

• To extract text from the English course and translate it into Spanish
• To duplicate and build the courses in Spanish using Articulate 360/Storyline/Rise

Key Deliverables/Outputs:

During the consultancy, the following outputs will be expected:

A complete set of final SCORM packages uploaded/deployed to Kaya in Spanish

Payment Schedule:

50% payment on sign-off of all translated content

50% payment on sign-off of all completed modules posted to Kaya

TENTATIVE TIMELINE & ACTIVITIES

CALP intends to begin this project in February 2024, and all consultancy activities are expected to be completed by 30th May 2024.

WORKPLAN/METHODOLOGY

The consultants will need to extract the text from the course, either in XLIFF or Word document formats and translate the content into Spanish working closely with CALP’s language lead to ensure technical language and glossary is used correctly.

The courses will be duplicated on Rise and rebuilt or rebuilt in an alternative software if preferred.

Key activities of the consultancy include (with estimated number of days in parentheses):

• Extract content and translate it into Spanish (6 days)
• Duplicate and build courses, including review phases (6 days)
• Post courses onto Kaya (LMS) and test functionality (3 days)

MANAGEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

This piece of work is commissioned by The CALP Network and funded by USAID (BHA). The CALP Language lead for Spanish will oversee the project, supported by the learning team.

This consultant will report directly to the Responsible Manager, listed above, who will be responsible for approving deliverable(s) and invoice(s). Additional technical support will be provided by the CALP Learning Content Lead and the CALP Deputy Regional Representative.

Physical Demands

• While performing the duties of this job, the consultant may be required to sit for long periods and to concentrate on work, including typing, and turn out heavy volumes of work accurately, within short time frames. Must be able to proofread own work accurately so that only minor corrections are needed on an infrequent basis.

MINIMUM DETAILS IN APPLICATION

For this piece of work, CALP is looking for the following expertise:

• Substantial experience of technical building of e-learning courses and online learning.
• Ability to translate content into Spanish and work with complex technical language
• Knowledge of Articulate 360 and Rise authoring tools is essential.
• Knowledge of Kaya and Totora/Moodle LMS’s is desirable.
