WWF-Myanmar is now inviting applications for Consultancy Assignment: Assessment on potential Nature-based Solutions and Climate Change adaptation options in the Ayeyarwady Deltawho will be worked workingstarting for three months by home-based with potential travels to Ayeyarwady delta in Myanmar.

from end of March to June 2022 with frequent field visits across Myanmar especially in Yangon, Mandalay and Ayeyarwaddy regions.

Myanmar’s climate is projected to shift dramatically in the coming decades, having a lasting and significant impact on Myanmar’s ecosystems and, in turn, on human health, agriculture, food security, infrastructure, local livelihoods and the larger economy. In the year 2017, WWF Myanmar developed its first assessment of climate risk in Myanmar. The report presented climate risk information including observed climate and future projections of temperature, rainfall, sea level rise and various extreme events, and outlined how this information can be used in decision-making.

Objectives of the Consultancy

WWF-Myanmar invites consultancies and/or institutions to conduct a detailed Vulnerability Assessment of mangrove ecosystems and delta communities in the Ayeyarwady Region. The assessment should consider vulnerability to climate change as well as potential adaptation measures that can be implemented under the current context. The target areas for this assignment are three townships in the Ayeyarwady delta.

The approach should be participatory, involving stakeholders to ensure an understanding of their perspectives and knowledge; engaging local communities living in and adjacent to the areas of interest; and including stakeholders in the identification of potential adaptation measures with a special focus on nature-based solutions.

Scope of work

The consultant is expected to provide a detailed methodology and timeline with a work plan and seek approval from WWF at the start of the contract.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher in Climate Change and development, Development Economics, Environmental Economics, Environment resources management, Environmental Law, Planning or a closely-related field.
• Comprehensive knowledge of climate change resilience and vulnerability, adaptation measures and nature-based solutions.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience preferably in the area of climate resilient integrated natural resources planning at national and sub-national levels;
• Demonstrated spatial analysis experiences in delivering similar assessments and development of knowledge products in any delta region.
• Experience working with research, data collection and other relevant professionals.
• High sense of responsibility and commitment.
• Able to complete the task according to the deadline.
