Compliance Assistant

Part-Time Internship; 10-20 hrs/week – 6 months (extendable)

Established in 1977, GOAL is an international humanitarian agency, with a team of 3,100 personnel, dedicated to alleviating the needs of the most vulnerable communities.

Working within GOAL’s Global Compliance team and reporting to the Donor Compliance Officer, the Compliance Assistant helps to ensure that GOAL meet its Sanctions Screening obligations. As a Compliance Assistant, you will assist our team in overseeing, performing, and analysing Anti-Terrorism & Sanctions Compliance Checks (ATSCs). These checks are conducted to ensure that GOAL complies with all relevant sanctions against individuals and organizations. This work involves a great deal of open-source research to ensure that potential matches are correctly identified.

You will also work alongside our system administrator to improve the automation of these screenings and will learn to write basic logical scripts to improve the system’s accuracy.

Finally, you will join our team in its work with our Country Programmes in improving their data analysis and screening data.

Duties

1. Assist in the performance of sanctions screenings for GOAL HQ and Country programmes as required.
2. Work with our Compliance team to automate screenings using boolean logic to reduce the number of false-positive alerts generated by GOAL’s screening system.
3. Assist in the analysis of GOAL Country teams’ screening records and procedures, as well as the improvement thereof.
4. Provide additional assistance to the Compliance team as required.

Requirements

1. Tertiary education relating to public policy/law. (Economics, Political Science, Law, Public Policy, International Relations, etc.).
2. Strong IT skills and an ability to adapt to unfamiliar software.
3. Open-source research skills and strong reading comprehension.
4. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (i.e. Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP functions).
5. Experience with data analysis and transformation is a plus.
