Job Overview: Under the supervision of the Health Promotion Coordinator, the COVID Community Health Worker will support the IRC’s COVID-19 response efforts including vaccination, testing, and education. They will also work with the Utah refugee population to increase healthcare access, knowledge, and self-sufficiency for related to healthcare.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Support IRC SLC’s ongoing COVID response, including vaccine/testing access, response to positive cases and connecting cases to appropriate resources.

· Track data such as client interactions, vaccination efforts, and testing

· Assist in collaborative and informative outreach strategies to staff, clients, and local partners

· Support programs that increase staff and client resilience

· Support cross-programmatic efforts to reach clients with linguistically accessible, technologically relevant communications on COVID-19 and programmatic information

· Assist with transportation for clients to COVID and Community Health related activities as well as medical/health appointments

· Assist with health care coordination efforts for newly arrived refugee clients

· Provide health education and outreach to newly arrived refugee clients

· Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to help vaccine hesitant clients make an informed decision and increase community COVID knowledge

· Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

· Relevant professional experience in the medical or public health field desired

  • Prior related professional experience required
  • At least one year of experience working with diverse populations, including English language learners
  • At least one year of experience providing social services or health programming for vulnerable populations

Language Skills: Spoken and written fluency in English required. Proficiency in Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, or Dari/Pashto strongly preferred.

Certificates or Licenses: Certificate in interpretation and/or translation preferred

· Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives.

  • Ability to use email, video conferencing, phone and basic MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proven commitment to maintaining confidentiality on sensitive and private communications
  • Proven success achieving goals and working effectively with all levels of staff in a multicultural environment.

· Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.

· Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

· Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.

· Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.

· Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.

Working Environment:

· A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

· Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required; up to 10%.

· May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
