About Heart Research UK

Proud to stand out from the crowd, Heart Research UK is the charity dedicated to your heart. We inspire and invest in pioneering medical research, ground-breaking training and education, and in communities to improve their heart health for themselves. For over 50 years we have driven advancements in the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease to benefit patients as soon as possible.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) kills more than one in four people in the UK, and coronary heart disease is one of the single biggest killers in the UK. In Scotland, sadly 47 people a day die from CVD. In Scotland, the death rate from coronary heart disease is 50% higher than in the south-east of England. We don’t think that’s fair, and that’s why the Heart of Scotland Appeal was established – to raise money in Scotland, for Scotland.

Since 1967, Heart Research UK has invested over £25m in life-saving medical research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease. We know research works, but there’s a lot more that needs to be done.

Through pioneering research and accessible education, we will reduce the number of people developing and dying from heart disease, while improving and extending the lives of those affected. Our focus is prevention, treatment, cure.

Our values reflect who we are as a charity. We are dedicated to fundraising ethically, and to ensuring that the money our supporters donate is spent in the best way possible.

Our values:

·       We will continuously demonstrate our credibility and knowledge

·       We will always act with integrity, compassion and humility

·       We are committed to working together to make a difference

·       We are passionate, and proud of it

·       We strive to be innovative and collaborative in everything that we do

·       We are large enough to have a voice and small enough to hear yours

Our people

We are currently a team of 28 and growing. There are currently 7 people in the central fundraising team. While many of the team are based around our head office in Leeds, since the pandemic we have moved to a hybrid working model.

We look after our team and have developed a number of wellbeing initiatives to help support staff. This includes monthly wellbeing sessions which cover a variety of issues such as sleeping well, nutrition, setting goals etc, as well as giving staff 20 minutes 3 days a week on top of allocated lunch time in order to go for a walk.

This is an exciting time to join the charity as we are about to launch our new long-term strategy, building on our ambitions to make an even bigger difference to those developing or dying from heart disease.  We also have a 5-year fundraising strategy which aims to raise the funds to support the organisation’s ambitions, and we would love you to be a part of that.

We are looking for someone to join our energetic, collaborative, dedicated team – someone who will add to our culture and have the drive and passion to help us achieve our ambitious goals.
