Glocal Roots is a grassroots organization, supporting refugees and displaced communities since 2019. Our solution: breaking the dependency cycle by building resilience and autonomy. We build structures and networks that support displaced people to become resilient, autonomous and self-reliant again!
What is the Victoria Community Centre?
The Victoria Community Centre, the site of Glocal Root’s women and kid’s space, is based in Athens, Greece. The centre is a multifunctional, collaborative, and community-based effort of 8 partner organizations to provide essential resources, support services, and a sense of belonging to the city’s diverse population.
As part of the centre’s mission to address food insecurity amongst people with refugee backgrounds, Glocal Roots has the overall responsibility for the operations and management of the community cafe.
A place of community connection and relaxation, we are looking for a Project Management intern for the Cafe starting from October to assist in the successful implementation of food-related and community-building activities in the Victoria Community Centre.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support in the successful implementation of cafe activities in the VCC.
- Assist the coordinator with the management of stock levels and inventory, ensuring efficient operations.
- Support all project tasks, including monitoring and evaluation of activities, to ensure project is delivered within scope and budget.
- Assist with training and coordination of volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with the team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. Provide guidance and support as needed with various tasks in the cafe.
- Assist head of security with crowd control, ticketing system and lunch time food distribution.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic space to high standards.
- Create a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors and volunteers.
Essential Requirements:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse team and interact with customers and volunteers
- Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail to manage stock, schedules, and operational tasks efficiently.
- Leadership qualities to inspire and guide the cafe team, resolve conflicts, and make decisions under pressure.
- Proficient in written and spoken English
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility and adaptability
Desired Requirements:
- Previous experience in a hospitality setting
- Knowledge in context relevant languages (Greek, Arabic, Farsi, French, Dari)
- Drivers License
This is an unpaid position. Interns are responsible for covering transport costs to and from Athens, accommodation and any other expenses.
