Summary of Position:

IREX seeks qualified Communications Specialist candidates for the anticipated USAID Digital Strategy Implementation and Programs Activity (DSIPA). This activity under USAID’s Innovation, Technology & Research Hub’s Technology Division (ITR/T), is designed to build the capacity of USAID Missions, Washington Operating Units (OUs), and partners across multiple technical and regional sectors, to advance digital initiatives that enhance security and economic prosperity in partner countries while safeguarding individual rights, freedom of expression, and democratic norms and practices. The activity will advance the research, training, strategic thinking, digital-sector partnerships, and behavior change that will equip USAID for the digital age. The activity will also foster the effective and responsible use of digital technology across all technical and regional sectors, and support the growth of open, inclusive, and secure digital ecosystems in partner countries. The Communications Specialist is responsible for working across multiple media to produce strategic documents, resources, and training resources for buy-in clients.

This position is contingent on funding.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall communications strategy for this activity, and its evolution as program structure evolves
  • In partnership with MEL specialist and buy-in manager and staff from the buy-in activities, will be responsible for producing strategic and operational communication resources for the activity
  • Working across buy-in activities will be responsible for the regularly collecting and collating success stories, brief papers, case studies, etc. for publication in collaboration with USAID missions and rest of technical staff
  • Works closely with other communications and marketing teams in positioning the activity as part of relevant events organized by both USAID but also other external third parties
  • Supports Director of the activity with production of timely reports for a variety of different deliverables
  • Liaises with communication specialists from resource partners for collaborations in different reporting, marketing, and other communication activities
  • Works closely with MEL specialist and other personal from buy-in activities to develop compelling storytelling products
  • Responsible for establishing risk mitigation and quality control mechanisms for both internal and external communications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience communications, preferably in the fields of development, technology, cybersecurity, and/or digitalization
  • Must have experience in multimedia and graphic design, as well as exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Experience with data visualization, and digital storytelling products such as ArcGIS story maps is a plus
  • Excellent written and spoken English is required
