Functional Responsibilities:

UNOPS is recruiting a Communications Senior Analyst to achieve UNGP’s goals. The role contributes to i) strengthening UNGP’s communications and outreach capabilities and ii) supports communicating UNGP’s broader transformation to more performance, results and impact-driven organisation.

Primarily this role seeks to support, develop and refine UN Global Pulse Finland’s communications work. Secondly, the role will support the wider UNGP Network to develop and improve its communication and outreach work. The incumbent will part of a communications team led by a Creative Specialist and will closely collaborate with staff and portfolio teams across the UNGP Network. Strategically, the role will help ensure that UNGP is able to report, communicate and publicise its work, partnerships, learning, outcomes, results & impact. The role will help document and report on how UNGP has helped the wider UN to make a transformative impact.

The successful candidate is quick to seize upon and crystalise key messages. They communicate insights in a compelling and accessible manner. They are able to tell absorbing stories by quickly understanding complex issues and communicating these clearly and concisely.

The ideal candidate adapts quickly, is experimental, collaborative, prioritizes effectively, has a hands-on can-do attitude, inspires others and is quick to offer help and support to colleagues.

The role is based in Helsinki, Finland. Occasional travel and field missions may be required, as conditions allow.

The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Creative Specialist and execute the following duties:

1. General Communications Duties

● Support the coordination of all UN Global Pulse Finland’s communications activities.

● Contribute to presentations and developing key messages for UN Global Pulse Finland.

● Provide guidance to UN Global Pulse Finland staff on talking points for events, forums and high-level meetings;

● Working with the Coordination & Knowledge Management Senior Analyst, support the production of knowledge materials including inter alia blog posts, articles, reports and publications.

● Provide quality control to ensure all communication products are of high quality, meet deadlines and comply with UN standards.

● Support the production and design of visual communications content such as slideshows, informational graphics, publications, videos.

● Represent UN Global Pulse Finland and UNGP Network in events, inter-agency working groups, conferences, workshops, as required.

● Manage and maintain the UN Global Pulse website. Initiating site performance tests. Manage requests for improvements, bug reporting and fixes.

● Provide guidance and supervisory support to staff and interns as and where required.

2. Social Media and Outreach

● Manage the portfolio of UNGP Finland’s social networks (e.g., mailing lists, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and other online media strategies for advocacy and information sharing.

● Support UNGP Network interactions with the media, for example providing briefs and background information.

● Lead and support the creation of multimedia content (e.g. vlogs, photographs, editing).

● Explore and develop new avenues for digital content distribution and promotion.

3. Communications Strategy

● Provide substantial inputs to the development of the overall UNGP Communications Strategy.

● Support the operationalisation of the UNGP Communications Strategy. Develop tools and guidelines for the use of social media and other audience engagement tools in line with the UNGP’s Communication Strategy.

● Define and adjust Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for social media. Regularly monitor and report on website analytics (e.g., information architecture, user experience).

● Support cohesive messaging, content and communications materials across the UNGP Network.

4. Communications Monitoring & Reporting

● Regularly monitor references to Global Pulse online including daily twitter reports, in UN documents (including resolutions, official statements, and reports) and public documents (including social and regular media, and expert publications).

● Monitor and share news/developments in areas relevant to UNGP’s work.

● Identify issues and trends of significance to UNGP. Advise and guide responses and actions to these trends.

Impact of Results

UNGP will improve the way manages and delivers its communications work. It will inform and improve the communication of its initiatives to the UN and its development partners.

The incumbent will help UNGP to communicate additionality or co-benefits. These could include but are not limited to: i) How the UN has changed the way it works to become more agile, lean and responsive in supporting innovation for impact; ii) How has UNGP changed the behaviour or decisions of development partners who also work in a similar innovation / digital transformation space; and iii) The success of UNGP in integrating gender, climate and diversity across and throughout its work.

Education:

An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) preferably in Communications, International Relations/Public Affairs, Journalism, Media, Arts, Marketing, Political or Social Sciences, International Development or other related disciplines.

A first-level university degree (Bachelor´s degree) and an additional two years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Required:

● At least two (2) years of communications experience in international development, research, or another related field.

Desirable:

The following experience is desirable. Candidates who do not have experience in these areas are welcome to apply:

● Communications experience in innovation or digital development.

● Experience in humanitarian or development sectors, including experience in the UN or international organisations or national/regional/local government contexts.

● Experience in web-content management and production of communication materials.

● Experience in managing and creating social media networks for advocacy and information sharing.

● Leveraging online communication tools and methodologies (such as online monitoring, web analytics, or other online measurement tools) to develop and analyze online communications performance indicators.

● An understanding on the intersection of technology, web, design, editorial, digital, social media and multimedia.

● Strong digital media, visualization and web interactive skills, with proven experience in producing visually compelling digital products.

Language Requirements:

● Fluency in English (speak, write, read) is required.

● Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an asset
