UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship under the Public Information Unit at UNHCR Multi-country Office Argentina.

Organizational context:

In the framework of the tasks carried out by the Public Information Unit, keeping UNHCR MCO ARG staff and partner agencies informed about the main news of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay is an essential internal communication objective.

It is necessary to keep abreast UNHCR staff and Units with updated information, latest news and monitoring of media discourse by the most relevant media outlets, especially regarding the issue of forced displacement and broader relevant topics (related to political, social, economic, cultural context) that have an impact in our work and programmes at the national, regional and international levels. Likewise, follow up of UNHCR media plan (interviews given,

press releases, briefing notes, UNHCR mentions, etc.) is a relevant task for the Regional Office in order to monitor the public agenda.

Being part of the UNHCR MCO ARG communication´s team will allow the intern to be in contact with various current affairs and refugee issues in the five countries covered by the office. It will be an enriching experience for a person who is studying or has just graduated from communications, journalism or related careers.

The position The Communications Assistant will focus on perform daily monitoring of the most relevant news published by the media in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay related to the work carried out by UNHCR in the region and globally (including those that contain UNHCR mention and other agencies of the United Nations System) to be sent from Monday to Friday

at 10 am to the Public Information Team for review. She/he will also support the programming of content on social networks and prepare follow up reports whenever required.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Compile and maintain the mailing list for press releases, information bulletins,

etc and ensure timely despatch of information to media and other interested

parties.

  • Perform daily monitoring of the most relevant news published by the main

media in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay related to the work

carried out by UNHCR in the region and globally (including those that contain

UNHCR mention and other agencies of the United Nations System) to be sent

from Monday to Friday at 10 am to the Public Information Team for review.

  • Track news and specific issues in the context.
  • Prepare follow up reports whenever required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum qualifications required:

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of

applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and

  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.

NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.

Desirable Qualifications And Skills

  • Ongoing or completed post-secondary training in Communications, Audio Visual Arts, Journalism, Social Science or related field.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Experience relevant to the functions report, news clipping.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.

Conditions

It is a full-time role.

Modality: in-person

Working hours: Monday to Thursday from 9 to 17.30 and Fridays from 9 to 14 hs.

The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Buenos Aires.

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses. Currently the allowance for Buenos Aires is ARS 570.000 monthly.
