Time commitment: We ask for a commitment of at least two full days per week for a duration of 4-6 months, but we are flexible and will do our best to accommodate your university class schedule and other commitments.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lighthouse Relief Communications Outreach Intern will play a key part in the LHR Communications Team, providing strategic and day-to-day support to the Head of Communication in elevating the message and the work of Lighthouse Relief through various social media channels, the LHR website, and external channels.

The primary responsibility of the Communications Outreach Intern will be to devise and implement a local outreach strategy in Athens in order to raise LHR’s profile within Greece, foster good neighbourly relations with residents and small businesses located near the areas where we conduct Streetwork, and cultivate supporters. This may include drafting social media posts in Greek, researching potential supporters and partners, planning events, and crafting talking points to explain the importance and value of our work to a Greek audience.

The Communications Intern will also have the opportunity to spend time at Ritsona Camp and join Streetwork shifts in central Athens in order to observe operations, and to gather information about LHR’s work on the ground, while gathering photography and video materials of our work. An essential part of the position will also be to elevate the voices of those we serve in a sensitive and empowering way that reflects Lighthouse Relief’s strong ethical principles and moral code.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

BUILDING LHR COMMUNITY IN GREECE

  • Assist in conceiving and implementing a local engagement strategy

  • Explore partnerships with Greek companies and organisations

  • Devise creative ways to spread the word about LHR’s positive impact, including how we give back to the local Greek community

  • Assist in the planning of film screenings, panel discussions, and other public events designed to raise LHR’s profile

CONTENT CREATION

  • Spend time in the camp generating stories about Lighthouse Relief and our beneficiaries, for LHR and donors media channels.

  • Work closely with HoC and communications officer to aid in the production of storytelling campaigns, collaborate in the story mapping process.

  • Write content in Greek and in English for blog, social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), and donors, and assist with videography and photography.

OUTREACH TO GREEK AND INTERNATIONAL PRESS

  • Assist with planning of press conferences and developing press kits

  • Draft press releases in Greek and English

  • Contact individual journalists to provide talking points and background information

CAMPAIGNS AND FUNDRAISING

  • Supporting the organisation of donor cultivation and fundraising events including through outreach to cultural venues and other appealing spaces

  • Researching potential corporate partners / sponsors

  • Shaping guidelines for how to target the Greek donor communities with future fundraising campaigns.

ADDITIONAL FUNDRAISING, COMMUNICATIONS, AND ADMIN TASKS

  • Help maintain the mailing list

  • Help maintain the social media trackers

  • Assisting with preparing the July and September fundraising campaigns.

As the responsibilities listed here cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Degree in communications, journalism, or a related field, or relevant work experience

  • Stellar oral and written communication skills

  • Fluency in both Greek and English

  • Previous experience drafting social media posts, press releases, reports, and other written material for an organization

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to live and work in the European Union

  • Ability to adapt to a multicultural context and work cross-linguistically

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently

Desired

  • Experience using Canva, Mailchimp, Squarespace, and Asana

  • Experience in developing and carrying out community outreach strategies

  • Prior work experience with an INGO is preferred.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Volunteer contract, fixed-term with 40 hours per week work schedule (full-time) or 20 hours per week part-time

  • Reimbursement of accommodation expenses of up to €200 / month for full-time
