We are recruiting a Communications Officer to play a key role in planning and delivering communications content to LFJL’s audiences. The post-holder will work closely with the Communications Manager to produce content in a range of mediums, including written, audio-visual and social media content. In particular, you will be responsible for planning and delivering, as well as commissioning, content for our Arabic-speaking audience in Libya with the aim to promote a culture of human rights in Libya and grow LFJL’s presence in a sensitive and relevant manner. You will have strong editing skills and interest in human rights issues in the MENA region.

The post-holder is expected to demonstrate creativity and organisation regarding external communications to contribution to the achievement of our communications objectives and organisational mission statement.

You will work collaboratively with our Law programme, Research and Capacity Building programme, and Advocacy programme.

Responsibilities: You will work with LFJL’s management and board of trustees to oversee LFJL’s finances and financial systems. This will include:

  • Support the planning, production, copyediting, proofreading and promotion of communication outputs, including written articles, graphics and video.
  • Scheduling of content on social media channels (currently Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, Youtube) using content management software.
  • Lead content production for social media aimed at Libyan audiences in Arabic.
  • Update website page.
  • Scope out opportunities for collaboration for online content with LFJL’s partners.
  • Draft and edit LFJL’s quarterly newsletter and maintain mailing list on Mailchimp.
  • Provide communications support for campaigns.
  • Ensure consistent branding is used.
  • Collect monthly statistics to keep an overview of LFJL’s communications performance and ensure we are reaching relevant audiences.
  • Receive, track, and manage press enquiries.
  • Carrying out any other duties to support our activities.

Qualifications and skills:

Education and experience

  • Degree in journalism, media studies, graphic design, communications or related field.
  • At least one years’ relevant experience in a communications or design role, preferably within the NGO or charity sector.

Skills and knowledge

  • Experience using social media for a professional organisation/NGO.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload with competing deadlines.
  • Willingness to use initiative, work independently and think creatively.
  • Interest in human rights.

Languages

  • Excellent written and oral communication in English with proven editing and proofreading skills is essential.
  • Fluency or working knowledge of Arabic is required.

Remuneration:

£27,500 per annum.
