Project Description: The Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) activity provides demand-driven support services and technical assistance for USAID Missions, Bureaus, and Independent Offices, and is managed by USAID’s Center for Environment, Energy, and Infrastructure in the Bureau for Development, Democracy, and Innovation. INRM supports integrated analysis and programming across development sectors. By using a multi-sectoral lens, INRM seeks to strengthen the impacts of USAID’s core environmental programming by recognizing synergies, adopting best practices, and building broader constituencies for integrated programming. INRM is designed to help USAID operating units achieve higher impact environment programming and to support the uptake of principles and approaches outlined in the Agency’s Environmental and Natural Resource Management Framework.

Purpose of the position: INRM is seeking a full-time Communications, Knowledge Management, and Learning Specialist to support INRM portfolio-wide communication, knowledge management needs and Learning needs. The CKML Specialist will work closely with the INRM Director of Communications and Knowledge Management to support ongoing communications work such as, the design and development of technical deliverables, deliverable specific communications and knowledge management plans, marketing strategies, and the dissemination of INRM materials. S/he will also support the Chief of Party with the implementation of INRM’s monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) tasks, including data collection and analysis, and harvesting lessons learned. It is anticipated that the position will spend 70% of their time on communications and 30% on MEL.

Objectives and Duties:

The CKML Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

Communications (70% of time)

  • Deliver high-quality writing, copy editing, proofreading, and other communications support. Develop communications materials that distill key ideas from INRM materials, for use as talking points and in presentations, website and social media content, blog posts, learning tools, and other materials.
  • Support the development of dissemination tactics for INRM activities; draft social media content to promote and disseminate INRM’s work.
  • Prepare INRM materials for publication to USAID Links websites and other channels.
  • Support the development of INRM’s bimonthly newsletter and other update formats, working with technical experts to refine brief descriptions of activities.
  • Work with INRM technical experts to identify and craft stories that communicate INRM’s impact, expertise, and value.
  • Distill periodic updates from across the INRM portfolio to share with USAID and DAI home office staff.
  • Provide basic graphic design support, e.g., laying out and polishing PowerPoint presentations, fact sheets, and other documents; develop simple graphics for INRM materials.
  • Identify photos from USAID Flickr accounts for use in communications materials; support the expansion and maintenance of INRM’s photo library.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (30%)

  • Support the implementation of INRM’s overall and activity-specific MEL plans.
  • Lead the collection, tracking, analysis, and management of indicator data. This includes working with INRM technical leads to ensure that MEL data are being collected, stored, and shared properly and in a timely fashion.
  • Track project and activity progress, and analyze outcomes, impacts, and lessons learned.
  • Support INRM activity managers on all required MEL data collection tasks, including designing and/or adapting any relevant instruments (e.g., surveys) as needed.
  • Help prepare activity performance reports.
  • Support MEL data reporting for USAID databases including DIS, and oversee data submission for DDL.

Qualifications

  • 2 to 3 years of relevant experience working on or supporting donor funded projects
  • Demonstrated experience editing and synthesizing the work of others and preparing submission-ready deliverables.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral.
  • The ability to absorb technical information quickly and make it interesting and digestible.
  • Experience in developing social media content for multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple activities for multiple clients under tight deadlines.
  • Degree in a relevant field from an accredited university
  • A meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail.
  • Experience using graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus.
  • Prior experience working on USAID or other donor-funded programs highly desirable
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative MEL data analysis required.

Reporting: Reports to the Director of Communications and Knowledge Management.
