Background

Stichting Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to prevent child exploitation, to remove children from exploitative situations and to ensure that these children can continue their development in a safe environment. Terre des Hommes focuses on sexual exploitation of children, the worst forms of child labour, child trafficking and migration, sexual and reproductive health and rights and on child protection in humanitarian crises. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia and East Africa. In Asia, Terre des Hommes Netherlands works in Cambodia, the Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, and Nepal.

Objective of the internship

To help and support the Communication activities carried at the Asia Regional Office, with audiences that are both external (for organisational profiling) and internal (information needs of colleagues).

Position in the organisation

The communications intern reports and receives technical guidance from the Regional Communications Officer with whom (s)he will be working closely together. The intern will also work closely with the Regional Communications Assistant.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Support in producing and implementing communication materials for the Asia Region.

  • Receive and develop high quality articles to be used for internal and external communication purposes.

  • Produce communication materials for social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) in support of TdH NL work in countries and the Asia region.

  • Produce communication materials for the TdH NL website for Asia, following TdH NL Asia branding.

  • Produce communication and profiling materials for the Asia Regional Office, such as one pager fact sheets following TdH NL Asia Branding and Content Guidelines and Templates.

Knowledge and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, design, visual arts or multimedia.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, in fluent English.

  • Experience in Social Media and web content management (including working with content management software), writing and editing for the web and Social Media, graphic design and site management.

  • Expertise in graphic design and video editing

  • Computer literacy: well conversant with working in the Google Workspace and its applications (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc), including basic skills in working with photo and video editing software.

  • Ability to undertake desk research using various (mainly internal) resources.

Competencies

  • Thorough and precise working style, with strong attention to detail.

  • Dynamic, self-motivated and self-starting personality who can and will take initiative.

  • Social skills to work on their own within a team.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of child protection issues in Asia

  • Ability to plan and organise well, setting goals and achieving results in line with the goals set.

  • Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities.
