Communications Coordinator – Remote

The National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants, and Migrants

The National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants, and Migrants (NRC-RIM) is funded by the CDC to support health departments and community organizations working with refugee, immigrant, and migrant communities to improve health outcomes. Since it was established in October 2020, NRC-RIM has become nationally known for excellence in public health preparedness and response, and in fostering partnerships that make a real difference in the communities.

NRC-RIM is looking to add an experienced communications professional to the team who will support its health communications efforts as well as promotions for the center itself. The right candidate has experience with marketing and communications best practices, including content creation, websites, mass email and social media; keen attention to detail and deadlines; writing, design, and communications skills; a history of effective collaboration; ability to multitask; and an interest and passion for serving diverse and multilingual communities.

This position reports to the Communications Strategist for NRC-RIM. This is a temporary, 100% grant-funded position funding through September 2024. Possibility for renewal based on grant funding.

This benefits-eligible position is fully remote and the candidate does not need to reside in Minnesota. The salary range is $55,000 to $65,000 based on qualifications.

Content Development & Management (70%)

  • Write blog articles, web copy, marketing emails, social media posts and other various marketing-communications related content
  • Manage content on the NRC-RIM website, including creating and updating pages and layouts, and managing assets in the media library
  • Manage content and production of e-newsletter; maintain newsletter contact list
  • Design marketing materials for center events and programs, including invitations, fliers and announcements in line with the center’s established branding guidelines
  • Monitor news, social media, and partners’ websites for content ideas and emerging trends
  • Create short videos using basic video editing tools (e.g. Animoto)
  • Coordinate the sending and receipt of translated materials to/from an external vendor and community reviewers and process files for publishing as needed

Social Media Marketing (20%)

  • Support the Communications Strategist in building and executing social media strategy
  • Generate, edit, publish and share daily social media content on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.

Center Administration (10%)

  • Respond to general inquiries in the center’s email account, escalating and delegating more complex inquiries as needed
  • Manage Zoom registrations and logistics for webinars and other online events for the center
  • Keep current with developments in the field, and continued professional development.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any subject and two years of related experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Google Suite
  • Experience building electronic newsletters using software such as Constant Contact or Mailchimp
  • Experience editing websites using content management systems like Drupal, WordPress, Wix, Joomla, etc.
  • Experience managing social media for organizations
  • Graphic design experience; proficient in Adobe Cloud, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of individuals/organizations
  • Demonstrated interest in working with diverse, multicultural communities and/or in international settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including proofreading, spelling, and grammar
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with refugees, immigrants, and/or migrant communities in the United States
  • Experience working with products written in languages other than English
  • Familiarity with best practices around simple language, ADA compliance, and Search Engine Optimization
  • Excellent organizational skills, to include multi-tasking and time management.

The Center for Global Health & Social Responsibility (CGHSR) Communication Specialist position is part of a center team consisting of 10 professional staff and faculty advisors.
