Communications Consultant

Synergy for Justice is seeking a part-time, mid-level consultant to help us improve communications strategies and develop external content for a variety of audiences. This consultancy will be remote, but preferably based in Europe/Middle East or East Coast of US and with strong internet connections for regular meetings. The initial consultancy is for 10 days but with the possibility of extension for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

• Assess Synergy’s external communications (social media, reports release, etc.) to date and provide concrete feedback and recommendations for improvement;

• Work with Synergy’s executive director and director of programmes to develop a calendar of opportunities to publicise our work and raise our profile;

• Draft social media posts, website content, and fundraising materials;

• Identify opportunities for Synergy to join panels, conferences, and other events in our field;

• Create a style guide for Synergy;

• Proofread communications and reports, both internal and external; and

• Track journalists covering our field and reach out on behalf of Synergy to pitch article ideas and interviews.

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to transform complex human rights and justice activities into digestible writing for the general public;

• Successful and demonstrable track record of communications work for human rights/justice/humanitarian organisations;

• Appreciation of and commitment to human rights and justice programming;

• Exceptional skills in using various social media platforms;

• Exceptional written communication skills in English; and

• A strong understanding of our work as explained on our website.

Desirable:

• Experience with graphic design and web development.
