BACKGROUND

iMMAP will implement a project funded by the GIZ for a period of 12 months. The project, run from iMMAP office in Baghdad, aims at supporting both the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MoLSA) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) through the creation of tailored interactive online information systems on the labor market situation and capacity building of both ministries regarding information management, monitoring and evaluation, and website development and maintenance.

 

Description of duties

The Communication Assistant will work under the Communication officer and in close coordination with the Project Manager. The main objective of the Communication assistant is to assess the development of visibility and media campaign component in the project and work on collecting success stories on the field from surveyed beneficiaries in close coordination with the senior M&E officer.

SUCCESS STORIES

  • In close link with the Senior M&E Officer, identify success stories among surveyed beneficiaries and plan field visits accordingly to various areas in Baghdad, Basra, Diwaniya, and Diyala governorates.
  • Conduct field visits to pre-identified beneficiaries’ locations and collect relevant information (testimonies) along with communication materials (pictures) upon people’s consent as defined in the related iMMAP guidelines.
  • Draft and participate in the finalization of the success stories under the supervision of the Communication Officer.
  • Maintain a record of all notes, interviews, and photo/video files.
  • Support the development of a media campaign and other required visibility material for the project in close collaboration with the project manager and communication officer.
  • Any other duties required to achieve the success of the visibility component of the project.

SECURITY

  • Ensure regular coordination with iMMAP’s security department.
  • Assess and review the security status of identified areas of operation in close coordination with the security focal points.
  • Strictly follow security plans, protocols and recommendations Ensure security plans and protocols for the areas of operation.

  • As part of the iMMAP commitment to organizational learning, and in support of the understanding that learning organizations are more effective, efficient, and relevant to the communities they serve, it is expected that the incumbent will commit 5% of his time to learning activities that benefit iMMAP as well as individual professional development.

  • iMMAP team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to beneficiaries of iMMAP programs, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of field projects.

 


Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

Requirements

EDUCATION

  • BA in journalism, international development, and/or any other relevant fields.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years of general experience.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in journalism or communication.
  • Previous experience in communication in a humanitarian organization is preferred.
  • Previous experience in the protection sector is an asset.

SKILLS

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good English and Arabic writing skills.
  • Photography skills.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Ability to perform well on tight deadlines, flexible attitude.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, in particular proficiency required in MS Office.
