Communications and Outreach Specialist for Clean Cities Blue Ocean

The USAID-funded Clean Cities Blue Ocean project in USA, implemented by Tetra Tech International Development (www.tetratech.com/intdev) is currently accepting expressions of interest for a Communications and Outreach Specialist. This position will be located in the main office in Arlington.

The CCBO activity is a five-year initiative of USAID which will serve as USAID’s flagship program to target ocean plastics directly at their source in cities and towns. The project works to prevent ocean plastic pollution by building capacity and commitment for Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling (3Rs) and solid waste management (SWM) in urban and peri-urban settings, particularly in riverine and coastal areas. CCBO works with multiple USAID missions on country-specific implementation of national and local activities, and with USAID/Washington on global-level activities.

The Communications and Outreach Specialist coordinates and supports the development, design, and execution of CCBO’s internal and external communications initiatives to ensure effective communication of program progress, successes, and learnings to USAID clients, program partners, and external target audiences. This includes managing and developing program communications materials and products (written, audio, and video); developing regular reports to keep USAID and partners apprised of program activities; and supporting social and mass media outreach.

Primary Objectives

* Promote the progress, successes and learnings of CCBO to further program objectives

* Develop communications strategies, products, and tools to disseminate and sustain CCBO’s innovations and investments

* Guide CCBO’s global social and mass media communication strategy

* Document program progress per USAID contract deliverable requirements, i.e., Quarterly, Annual, and End of Project Reports

Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree in communications/marketing, development communications, journalism, or other relevant subject area

* Minimum of five years’ experience developing and implementing communications strategies for international development, non-governmental organization, or private sector programs/clients

* This position will be based in the Tetra Tech ID in Arlington, VA office with consideration of remote, US-based locations.

* Prior experience working on USAID or other international donor programs

* Demonstrated experience developing compelling written communications materials (writing samples will be requested). Strong writing skills, with an eye towards detail/editing as a lead communicator of a multi-lingual team is critical to this position.

* Demonstrated experience developing and editing videos to tell compelling, visual stories (samples will be requested). Graphic design skills are also strongly desired but not required.

* Demonstrated experience developing compelling, effective social media strategies and content.

* Creative thinker, with ability and passion for crafting compelling and newsworthy stories.

* Experience working with international technical staff and stakeholders to develop program communications preferred.

* Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to be self-directed and work well independently and as well as part of a team; interest in being part of a complex, fast-paced development program that is reimagining how ocean plastic pollution can be prevented around the world.

* U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is required.
