About Asian Disaster Preparedness Center:

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is an autonomous international organization with a vision to reduce disaster and climate risk impacts on communities and countries in Asia and the Pacific by working with governments, development partners, international organizations, NGOs, civil society, private sector, media, and other key stakeholders.

Established in 1986 as a technical capacity building center, ADPC has grown and diversified its expertise across social and physical sciences to support sustainable solutions for risk reduction across a broad range of specialist areas. With over 100 staff from 19 different nationalities and a wide range of professional expertise with experiences from all levels of engagement typically required for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Resilience (CR) in an effective manner. ADPC is a competent regional resource center and has seven thematic departments: Preparedness for Response and Recovery, Risk Governance, Climate Resilience, Urban Resilience, Health Risk Management, Geospatial Information, and ADPC Academy. These are supported by Finance, Human Resources and Administration, and Strategic Planning departments. ADPC works on three cross-cutting themes: Gender and Diversity, Poverty and Livelihoods, and Regional and Transboundary Cooperation through permanent working committees. ADPC recognizes the importance of examining the linkages between disaster risk management, poverty reduction, gender equality, sustainability, rights-based approaches, climate change and regional cooperation. ADPC, through its programs, support the implementation of national, regional and global frameworks including Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (SFDRR), the Paris Agreement for Climate Change, the New Urban Agenda, the recommendations and priorities of World Humanitarian Summit (WHS), etc.

Purpose and Objectives:

The Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP), established by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), is a unique multi-stakeholder regional partnership that includes countries from South and Southeast Asia to better prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (the Foundation) and the United States Agency for International Development Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (USAID BHA), the partnership strives to improve stakeholder coordination and dialogue between governments, local humanitarian organization networks, and the private sector for enhancing capacities through partnerships, knowledge resources, training, and networking opportunities. The goal of APP is to improve the preparedness and emergency response to disasters by strengthening the interface between the government, local humanitarian organizations and the private sector and enhancing capacities through partnerships, information exchange and knowledge resources, trainings, and networking opportunities.

ADPC is looking to recruit Communications Knowledge Management Intern to be based at ADPC Head Office in Bangkok, Thailand or via the online modality. The intern will be under the overall guidance and supervision of the Integrated Knowledge Management Specialist, Program Lead- Localization, and the Director, Preparedness for Response and Recovery (PRR) Department of ADPC. The Intern will assist in maintaining the backend monitoring system, organizing uploads, and providing updates (contents, design elements, and landing pages) for the APP website.
The intern will also support the development of knowledge products, and the monthly newsletters. With consideration to these tasks, the Intern will coordinate with the APP communications focal points and country teams to procure the contents.

Expected Outputs: Assistance provided to the APP program team at Head Office for communications functions; timely development of well-researched web articles, editorials, events’ articles, and contents for the APP website; and knowledge products for the APP program. The Intern will support in further developing the APP website and web landing pages we well as monitoring and organizing web contents. They will coordinate with the country communications focal points to obtain and organize information regarding case studies, country events, and country communications products. The intern will also develop reports of the social media and website engagement.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Communications and Knowledge Development

  • Develop articles for APP events and updates for COVID-19 resource page
  • Assist in the development of APP presentations, brochures, stories, etc.
  • Assist in coordination and development of Regional Technical Working Groups (RTWG) case studies, compendium, repository, etc.
  • Assist in the backend monitoring system to monitor all uploads, design elements, and updates for the APP website.
  • Monitor and report on website and social media engagement

Coordination

  • Coordinate regularly with APP communications focal points
  • Attend meetings/ discussion with the program team as required
  • Adapt to the work plan provided by supervisor

Work closely with the program team and perform any additional tasks given by the supervisor/ program leads or the Director, PRR

Working Principles:

In performing the duties and responsibilities indicated above, the intern will be supervised by the assigned Knowledge Management Specialist and Program Lead- Localization, under the overall guidance of the Director, PRR. The intern will closely work with other Program Leads, and APP Country Program Managers, as applicable.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications and Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree/ enrolled in a university studying in the field of Disaster Management; Communications or any other related field.
  • Excellent command of English; both written, editing, and spoken.
  • Knowledge and experience of content writing for websites, editorials, publications, etc.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills; ability to work with a team in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong desire to learn; undertake new challenges; must have self-confidence; a willingness to work hard; a good sense of humor and fun but with seriousness about the quality and excellence of work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and takes initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work & time independently.

Duty Station: Bangkok, Thailand or remotely working as agree.

Duration: 1 April 2022 to 30 September 2022 with the possibility of extension based on the performance and technical requirement of the position and duration of the project.
