Introduction to THET

Today, one billion people will never see a qualified health worker in their lives. THET has been working to change this, training health workers to build a world where everyone has access to affordable and quality healthcare. We leverage the expertise and energy of the UK health community, supporting health partnerships between hospitals, colleges, and clinics in the UK and in Low-and-Middle Income Countries, and we advocate with governments and other stakeholders to promote universal health coverage and tackle the global health workforce crisis. THET is an NGO in Official Relations with the World Health Organization and runs the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Health.

About THET’s Global Health Workforce Programme and Annual Conference

Funded by the UK Department of Health and Social Care and managed by the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET), The Global Health Workforce Programme will develop the health workforce (HWF) in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria, supporting them to build stronger, more resilient health systems for post-pandemic recovery and to make progress towards universal health coverage. Grants for UK-LMIC and cross-LMIC partnerships will be awarded to respond to national HWF priorities identified through a scoping assessment.

Each year, THET organises Annual international conferences bringing together policymakers and members of the international health partnership community. Attendees include stakeholders such as the NHS, Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), universities and hospitals involved in partnerships based in UK and overseas, and sponsors, with high level representation also from ministries of health and others. Currently, THET conferences are hosted online, with some other events in person throughout the year. This year’s conference has a universal health coverage theme.
