ROLE PURPOSE

The Communications and Advocacy Officer is expected to deliver high quality communication, campaigns, advocacy, and media products and activities that raise the profile of the humanitarian crises to children’s lives, and build the profile of Save the Children as a child’s rights humanitarian organization under its Typhoon Rai/Odette relief and early-recovery program and COVID-19 response.

The post-holder shall also be responsible in providing technical inputs to build and strengthen the capacity of partner local government units (LGUs) and other organizations/institutions, and contribute to the overall networking and coordination works with different stakeholders.

The post-holder is expected to support other SCP humanitarian initiatives that may arise within the duration of his/her employment contract.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential
* University degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Communication or any related course;
* At least three (3) years of work experience in humanitarian and/or development communication or journalism;
* With demonstrated ability on organizing, facilitation and conduct of capacity building trainings
* Easily adapt self and can work in changing contexts
* Ability to deliver with limited supervision. Demonstrated ability to set and achieve objectives and deadlines
* Ability to work on own initiative to build on and develop the job, combined with ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Fluency in English and Filipino, both written and verbal is a must. Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills in order to deal tactfully and sensitively with a wide range of people in a large organization
* Highly organized, with good attention to detail and developed ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines and organize work
* Ability to keep track of the quality and status of own or others’ work
* Proven attention to detail and ability to effectively manage a high volume of data and information
* Keen eye for good stories and ability to take quality video and photographs
* Proficiency in using MS Word, MS Excel, Photoshop, In Design and Premiere Pro
* Excellent relationship building and coordination skills in order to effectively work with different program/ project teams
* Excellent communications and relationship building skills with children in order to gather good case studies
* Experience in working with the media
* An initiative-taking, proactive, inspiring attitude with the ability to manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload and solve problems quickly with limited support
* The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances
* Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
* Willingness to engage in heavy travels

Desirable
* Good understanding of current humanitarian issues and the dilemmas/compromises inherent in modern humanitarian interventions
* Experience working in humanitarian context
* Experience in writing press releases and pitching to the media

LOCATION: Quezon City (with frequent travels to Bohol, Surigao del Norte, and Southern Leyte)
