The United Nations University Vice-Rectorate in Europe (UNU-ViE):

UNU-ViE, established in 2007, is one of two Vice-Rectorates and the only one located outside Japan. UNU-ViE seeks to strengthen the presence of UNU in Europe and supports the worldwide institutional development of UNU by facilitating collaboration across UNU and the UN, and sharing knowledge and expertise through the development of joint activities and projects. Responsibilities

Under the authority of the Vice-Rector in Europe and the direct supervision of the Head of Communications Unit, the Communications Analyst will be responsible for:

1. Support strategic communications focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Engage in the planning and implementation of communication strategies for UNU academic programmes and projects, especially the Transformative Urban Coalitions (TUC) project to increase visibility and engagement.
  • Develop and implement project-specific communication plans at the local, regional and global level, incl. target audience mapping, development of KPIs, timelines and budgets.
  • Provide strategic communication guidance to the research team within the framework of specific projects, including providing communication trainings.
  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of communication activities within the framework of large-scale research and policy projects, specifically the TUC project.

2. Contribute to content production focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Draft a wide variety of communication materials, including website articles, press releases, key messages and Op-eds in English and Spanish and manage the effective distribution.
  • Produce in-house and commission multimedia products, including videos, photography and design.
  • Conceptualize, research and advise on the latest trends, best practices and benchmarks in social media outreach with a focus on digital storytelling and provide recommendations for suitable tools, formats and innovative approaches.
  • Collaborate with academic programs to develop new concept for transformative communication

3. Coordinate social media outreach focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Support the development and execution of creative social media campaign ideas to increase visibility for UNU and its programs and projects, especially the TUC project.
  • Manage the UNU and affiliated social media accounts, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Co-develop social media content in line with organizational priorities and key calendar moments;
  • Coordinate the production of key visuals in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors;
  • Monitor and evaluate UNU-EHS social media engagement and visibility through utilizing social media management and evaluation tools.

4. Contribute to partnerships building focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Build partnership with UN agencies, NGOs and key influencers to strengthen the brand of UNU-EHS and its projects programs, especially the TUC project.
  • Share and repost relevant content of partners on UNU-EHS channels and engage with partners to facilitate the sharing of UNU-EHS content to amplify messaging.
  • Develop and implement concepts for joint events and campaigns with key influencers and partners.

5. Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Social media campaigns are developed and implemented, social accounts are managed.
  • New partnerships are build and existing ones are strengthened.

Qualifications

Education and certification

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in communication, journalism, social science, environmental studies or public administration.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Required:

  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, strategic communication, corporate communications or public relations, some of which is preferably in an international setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting the development and implementation of communication strategies for projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing social media campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting communication materials in English and Spanish required.
  • Experience in using professional social media management and evaluation tools such as Hootsuit, Falcon or Buffer is required.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of short videos and multimedia assets required.
  • Experience in video production including conceptualizing, scripting, recording management, editing and subtitling is required.
  • Experience in working with Photoshop, Premiere Pro and AfterEffects is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and growing partnerships at the local, regional and global level is required.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of the UN system is an advantage; previous experience of working in international development organizations focused on sustainable development would be an asset.
  • Excellent team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as an ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Strong ability to establish priorities, multi-task and work within tight timelines

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with the consistent application of the UN style guide is desirable.
  • Familiarity with designing and implementing communication campaigns in Latin America considered a strong asset.

Remuneration

UNU offers an attractive, tax exempt compensation package including an annual net salary and post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance). Duration of contract

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment. The initial appointment will be for one (1) year with the possibility of renewal on a fixed-term appointment basis, subject to satisfactory work performance

The mandatory age of retirement for United Nations staff is 65 years.
