Description: The Position
The Communication Manager serves as a subject matter expert in marketing and public relations best practices. The manager owns the tactical and operational elements of the marketing cycle including content generation, copy writing and campaign execution. S/he works closely with management to ensure that marketing methods, processes, and procedures are efficient, effective, well understood, and consistently practiced. The incumbent builds and sustains relationships to support organizational marketing projects/plans/initiatives and organizational strategies.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing Plan and Strategy
Set up a yearly marketing plan, based on identified organizational priorities and budget, defining metrics, tracking progress towards engagement goals, and modifying, as necessary.
Develop marketing strategies to communicate new programs and services in line with organizational goals.
Stay abreast of cutting-edge tools, promotion trends and campaigns.

Media Relations
Support the development and execution of external public relations strategies and approaches for awareness of the organization’s activities and programs.
Work extensively with top-tier reporters (both proactively and reactively) to enhance and protect the organization’s reputation as well as advance organizational objectives.
Develop compelling consumer-focused storylines, positioning and key messaging.
Identify and anticipate issues, and working with the team, counsel on management of crises moments.

REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Creative Writing, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
Three (3) years of experience in content writing; demonstrated understanding of audience engagement, media relations and knowledge of trends. Exposure to nonprofit environments preferred.
Must be completely familiar with public relations terminology, processes, and policies.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable in learning new software.
Proven skills in prioritizing, organizing projects, and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
Exhibit a mature and professional demeanor both in presentation and actions.
Excellent analytical skills along with exceptional customer service attitude.
Ability to quickly learn the organization, industry and system, and relevant metrics and data.
Ability to operate both independently with minimal supervision as well as be a strong and supportive team member within the organization.
Ability to build trust, be creative, passionate, a great communicator, and influence and manage company-wide programs and initiatives.
Possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be able to travel domestically, and possibly internationally.
Must be able to lift objects, up to 50 pounds of weight, sit, stand, or kneel.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform work in indoor environments, to read documents, data reports, drawings, research and to view computer monitors.
Must be able to communicate in planning and implementation situations; must have the ability to express and presentation of ideas. Team and group dialogue required for communication of plans and concepts.
Must be able to effectively communicate during face-to-face and group work, for telephone work, for group conversations for planning work.
