Organization Background

Way of Hope to Life Organization (WHLO) is a non-profit and non-political organization. It was established in 2002 by an Afghan intellectual and veteran group of youth with the beliefs that meaningful empowerment and a better future is possible. The organization is registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan. Over the last 22 years, WHLO has implemented 251 projects in the areas of education, health, food security, livelihoods and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Based on 22 years of experience in the field of humanitarian and community development, we strongly believe that development and alleviation of human suffering can best be addressed and healed through humanitarian cooperation and partnership, and that this should occur within a transparent, accountable and well-defined frame of action for common human goals and purposes. We abide by the principles of participation, empowerment, accountability, non-discrimination, equality and legality. As a civil society organization, WHLO strongly believes in human rights-based development.

Job description

The Communication and fundraising officer will take the lead in developing proposals for submission to institutional donors. She/he will be expected to play a leading role in researching, developing and planning fundraising projects and proposals in the different sectors on WHLO thematic areas, meeting specific donor requirements and expectations, Communication with donors and funders. The main activities are as follows:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performance of the CFO will be evaluated according to the following indicators but not limited to:

  • Provides backing to the team by providing strong research support across communications, marketing, engagement, developing proposals, drafting budgets, fundraising and corporate profile development functions.
  • Review and evaluate incoming proposals from groups worldwide, acquire supplementary information/research as needed.
  • Seek endorsements and communicate with advisors on grant proposals.
  • Write reports and analyses of programmatic activities.
  • Develop, negotiate, and manage partnerships with the DONORS especially with UN agencies.
  • Provide research work on increasing contributions from international agencies fund-raising activities.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the fundraising activity and provide recommendations.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience.
  • Write, edit, and distribute content, including proposals’ proofing, social releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization’s activities, products and/or services.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the organization.
  • Review all previous year fundraising activity and make recommendations for improvements for new fiscal year.
  • Work with Program Team together.
  • Develop, revise and update fund development plan.
  • Engage in advocacy and networking for WHL Organization.
  • Participate in Clusters Meetings and other fundraising activities.
  • Analyze relationships with current and prospective major donors & funders, develop organization strategies to cultivate or strengthen those relationships.
  • Monitor & support fundraising efforts to be sure that ethical practices are in place, that donors are acknowledged appropriately, and that fundraising efforts are cost-effective.
  • Provide weekly report or day to day report for Program team and director.
  • Manage request for proposals (RFP) processes and developing proposals with Program team.
  • The other responsibility will be assign by supervisor/manager.

Financial Terms of appointment:

The position is offered for an initial period of 1 year, as the employee work in person with WHLO main office Kabul-Afghanistan and will provide pocket money, the accommodation during staying in Kabul-Afghanistan, round trip airfares (2 times in a year), issuing visa and etc.

Qualification:

  1. Master degree in Business Administration, or related field is required.
  2. At lease have 0-2 years of relevant experience in NGOs.

Skills:

  1. Excellent working knowledge of English, both written and verbal.
  2. Good working knowledge of MS Office application (Word, MS Project, Excel), email and able to easily navigate internet.
  3. Be able to uphold and respect Contracts ethics and to conduct activities with integrity.
  4. To be a good team player who demonstrates patience, flexibility and honesty.
  5. Be willing and able to meet tight deadlines and work long hours when required.
  6. To be a self-starter, who is able to plan and manage their own work, takes initiative and strives to meet deadlines.

Reports:

The Communication and Fundraising officer will report to Program manager and WHLO Director.
