Glocal Roots

Glocal Roots is a grassroots, non-profit organization with projects in Switzerland and Greece. Glocal Roots develops projects which aim to increase and strengthen the resilience and independence of displaced people. We are looking for a new communication and fundraising manager for our projects in Greece. Although the position is based in Athens, remote work is possible.

Project overview Greece

We currently run a support hub on Kos island and will soon set up a small safe space for women and children in a community building for refugees in Athens. Later this year, we aim to set up a labor market integration scheme for female refugees in Athens. For the past three years, we’ve been running a support hub for women on the island of Samos, which we are currently in the process of closing down.

Position overview

We are a small grassroots organization. This means that as part of the team, you will be involved in a variety of tasks. The Communications and Fundraising Manager is responsible for our external communication and developing and implementing fundraising strategies to enable current and future operations. While the role is based in Athens, remote work is possible.

Communications and advocacy:

• raise awareness online and keep our followers informed about our work (social media, website, and newsletter)
• develop and implement creative communication strategies and plans that increase the exposure of our projects and mobilize public, political, and financial support
• re-package, write, edit, re-write, and commission information/ stories, including those submitted by project teams and others, for dissemination via Glocal Roots to our audiences
• support project teams with the development and implementation of project and advocacy reports

Fundraising:

• develop and implement fundraising activities
• identify new funding opportunities and lead proposal writing for grant/trust applications – including designing, writing, submission, and follow up
• plan and lead the execution of online fundraising campaigns
• deliver presentations to interested groups and represent Glocal Roots at events

Reporting and grant management:

• support project teams to produce reports aimed at donors
• ensure donor criteria and requirements are well understood, documented, communicated, and met
• develop a donor reporting schedule in line with reports required by donors, as well as reports/ communications to build donor relations; where required, also develop reporting formats.

Requirements

• minimum of 2 years of experience working in a non-profit sector; including substantial responsibility for fundraising and/ or communication functions
• demonstrated experience in developing fundraising campaigns and working with crowdfunding platforms
• demonstrated experience in grant proposals and report writing for key partners and donors
• demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with digital communications platforms including social media, website management, and email marketing tools
• strong understanding of copywriting, graphic design, and content creation
• fluent in English with excellent written, editing, and oral communications skills; skills in German, Greek, Arabic, Farsi, and/ or French would be an asset
• strong planning skills, including the ability to anticipate tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, and function smoothly under strict deadlines and shifting priorities.

• monthly stipend of 800-1000 Euros, depending on experience (to cover housing and living costs) based on a 40-hour working week
