Geneva Call

Mission

In Ukraine, Geneva call is launching a multiyear program to answer to the current situation aiming in the short term to build knowledge among all parties involved in the conflict; and over the middle-long term to leverage policy development and enforcement of norms related to the protection of civilians and public infrastructure and negotiating humanitarian access. Overall, Geneva Call aims to develop humanitarian engagement with armed parties and communities as a means to create space for dialogue on the protection of civilians. Geneva Call works in the whole territory of Ukraine.

Role

The Communication and Community Outreach Officer will help develop and implement Geneva Call’s Communications and Advocacy in Ukraine in line with Geneva Call’s mission to enhance the protection of the civilian population in Ukraine.

Core responsibilities

Communication

  • Supporting the definition, designing, and implementing GC’s operational communication and development activities with the objective of promoting awareness, understanding, and support to GC’s mission and priorities in the field;
  • Develop innovative concepts for new campaigns (social media, radio, print) and manage campaign implementation;
  • Manage Geneva Call Ukraine social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.) and conduct regular media monitoring to assess GC’s presence in local media;
  • Ensure alignment with global communications priorities of GC while ensuring cultural sensitivity and contextually appropriate messaging.

Advocacy

  • Write, design and edit articles, letters, press releases, news posts and advocacy papers;
  • Organize and manage events for advocacy purposes;
  • Assist in drafting mission reports, project documents, proposals, concept notes and donor reports as required.

External relations & Community Outreach

  • Develop, or liaise with providers for the development of, high-quality content for print, social media and radio campaigns;
  • Maintain and foster strong relations in-country to ensure that media have a strong awareness of GC work, keep up-to-date a database of journalists and media organizations, respond to media inquiries on deadline;
  • Organize and manage outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities;
  • Attend and represent Geneva Call as required at conferences, seminars and other fora of interest to the organization.

Main qualifications

Education and experience

  • Degree in Communications, media, humanitarian affairs, political or social science or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years equivalent work experience in a humanitarian organization.

Technical skills

  • Knowledge of the local context;
  • Advanced writing, analytical & communication skills;
  • Using software such as Microsoft Office, Canva, social media, KOBO, Adobe InDesign as well as animation and video editing software;
  • Knowledge of the layout and quality control process for a variety of publications, and knowledge of printing requirements;
  • Ability to design and implement impactful public campaigns;
  • Strong presentational, writing and editing skills in English including proposal and report writing;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of humanitarian architecture, principles & standards.

Languages

  • English (C1-C2).
  • Ukrainian / Russian (B2-C1).

  • Understanding and respect for organisational principles and confidentiality;
  • Strong logic and organisational skills, flexibility and adaptability to change;
  • Ability to work under pressure, travel in conflict-affected areas and to handle numerous tasks simultaneously;
  • Accuracy and reliability, ability to reach results and meet deadlines under pressure.

Performance management

The employee will be accountable for the responsibilities and the competencies, in accordance with the GC Performance Management p. The following documents will be used for performance reviews:
