WE LEAD Project

WUSC and its consortium partner the Canadian Leaders in International Consulting (CLIC) are implementing the Women’s Economic Linkages and Employment Development (WE LEAD) project in Jordan. WE LEAD, a project funded by Global Affairs Canada, aims to increase women’s empowerment for sustainable economic growth; this will be achieved through activities focusing on women’s employment by businesses and the reduction of gender specific barriers to women entering into and remaining in the workforce. The WE LEAD project will be implemented over a period of four years, from March 7, 2017 to
March 31, 2024 in three governorates (East Amman, Irbid and Zarqa) in Jordan.

The Communication & Advocacy Specialist will play a crucial role in refining and implementing WE LEAD Communication Strategy in Jordan. The Communication & Advocacy Specialist will be a core member of the WE LEAD Project Team, working as a technical resource for integrating communications into the project.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Develop or revise project-specific communication strategy, plan and activities.

● In collaboration with the Private Sector Partnership Officer and the Project Implementation & Training Officer and local partners organize and coordinate public social marketing campaigns and outreach to identify potential new enrollees in health administration, Health Care Support and related vocational training centres programs.

● In collaboration with the local partners, establish a strategy for identifying appropriate communications points, messages and methods for WE LEAD activities.

● Coordinate different activities to enhance knowledge and awareness on the importance of women’s economic opportunities and gender equality in the workplace; activities in collaboration with the local partners such as:

– Campaign to enhance childcare and Safe transportation in Communities and private sector partners.

– National gender sensitive social media campaigns for improved access to child care and safe transportation;

– Community awareness campaigns and outreach activities on the value of women’s waged employment

– Orientation sessions with families of women joining the workforce.

– Community level events to promote equitable employment.

– Build the capacity of the local partners on community mobilization, outreach and awareness components.

● In collaboration with local partners, plan, contribute, coordinate content and activity for the project

social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, etc.);

● Contribute to the production of the project reports and annual work plans.

● Establish, manage, and maintain the social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

● Develop the Project communication toolkit and branding materials as (Factsheet, flyers, posters)

● Work closely with the Gender Equality Specialist to advise and maintain gender equality sensitivity method required.

● In collaboration with MEL Specialist to track trainees’ success in training and internship process.

● Undertake any related tasks assigned by the direct supervisor

● Follow up and support the implementation of activities under WELEAD related components and in coordination with WELEAD team and national partners to ensure good quality of deliverables as per the approved work plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

● MA/MSc or equivalent in social communication preferably

● A minimum of five years of active communication work experience in development programming

required; ideal candidate will have both theoretical and practical background in communication, and

skilled in communication analysis and methodologies;

● Proven experience in gender sensitive communications development;

● Experience in leading community or national campaign initiatives;

● Some technical experience in WE LEAD’s areas of activities: inclusive education, women’s economic empowerment;

● Practical experience in Community mobilization, outreach and awareness planning.

● Experience with a range of institutional donors such as Global Affairs Canada, DFID and USAID.

Competencies:
● Proven ability to work productively with a variety of stakeholders to run participatory processes and meet tight deadlines with an emphasis on producing quality products;
● Excellent capacity building skills, with demonstrated experience in effective training, coaching and facilitation;
● Effective interpersonal and influencing skills, including the ability to build relationships, network, communicate and represent at a senior level are essential;
● Flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate high levels of responsibility and multiple priorities;
● Commitment to local capacity building and the ability to engage local stakeholders in policy design and implementation;
● Copy writing ability to develop the project communication toolkit.
● Passion and commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment;
● Complete fluency, oral and written, in Arabic and English essential.
