Aims to increase War Child’s global brand awareness by creating, advising on and implementing detailed communication plans, and supporting the team with a range of communication initiatives.

Interim position for the duration of 8 months

You

You are responsible for developing, realizing and implementing the organisations’ communication policies, and for advising the board and other stakeholders on matters concerning internal and external communications.

The Communications Advisor reports to the Director Communications & Advocacy and may give functional instructions to other members of the Communications & Advocacy team.

Your Challenge

  • Develop communication policies, in close liaison with the department’s director and the line managers, within the framework defined by the board.
  • Review past policies and suggest improvements.
  • Advise on plans for agreed communication projects within the team and in countries, support their implementation and review them.
  • Develop and implement a wide range of agreed communication activities.
  • Serve as the first point of contact to answer questions, provide information and give advice on how and when to use communications resources, for example by assisting at public appearances and organizing events.
  • Write and edit reports and policy plans.
  • Perform final editing for the organizations’ website and other online communications.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends and translate them into advice to management.
  • Keep track of communication developments and advise the department’s director about what policies to adopt.

Your Profile

  • Academic background in communication and/or marketing
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience as communication advisor
  • Well-developed network and excellent knowledge of trends in the international development and humanitarian aid sector
  • Strong advisory skills
  • Proven track record in the production of creative and impactful content
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills in English; knowledge of Dutch or French is a plus, additional other languages are a benefit
  • Strong relation-building and diplomacy skills
  • Flexibility and (cultural and organisational) sensitivity
  • Creative and result-oriented
  • Cost aware and stress resistant
  • Available for 32 – 40 hours per week
  • EU national or eligible to live and work in EU; if not, able to travel to the War Child Amsterdam and program countries office regularly.
