Position Summary:

To lead and co-ordinate professional purchasing strategies for key suppliers and commodities. To provide expertise to support the establishment of agreements with suppliers and negotiate a beneficial commercial proposal to improve the as sold budget.

Key Accountabilities/ responsibilities:

1. The selection of suppliers and negotiation of prices within post holder’s level of delegated authority to commit

2. The negotiation of appropriate Conditions of Purchase

3. The creation of Long Term Supply Agreements with Key Suppliers

4. The delivery of purchasing savings in line with Company objectives

5. Communicate effectively with stakeholders and demonstrate the company values

6. The management of the relationship with allocated key suppliers

7. The development of new suppliers to maintain a competitive market place

Person Specification Consider what is essential and what is desirable

Background & Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of purchasing and supply management processes
  • Good Knowledge of supplier selection strategies
  • Track record of cost reduction
  • Excellent communicator and negotiator
  • Supplier contract negotiation
  • Excellent analytical & presentation skills
  • Tenacious, persuasive, “completer finisher”
  • Change management
  • Relevant product knowledge

Qualifications/Education required:

  • 7+ years of purchasing experience
  • CIPS qualification is desirable but not essential
  • Degree educated would be an advantage but not essential
