Clinical Psychologist

The Psychologist will have strong differential diagnostic skills, and will be able to provide supervision to the psychometrists. The Psychologist will also provide direct clinical service that in conjunction with the assessment services will involve consultation to the team, families and external agencies as well as treatment involving individual, group and family education/treatment. The Psychologist will be expected to provide clinical leadership in the development of clinical services for clients and families. Leadership will also be expected in program development including the implementation of quality and outcome indicators as well as the skills to set up evaluation processes. The Psychologist will be working within the context of a multidisciplinary team, utilizing a patient and family-centred approach, to provide assessment and treatment services for children and youth with complex behavioural and/or neurodevelopmental presentations. The Psychologist will also provide consultation/liaison to other caregivers and community agencies. The Psychologist will provide supervision of staff and other learners including involvement in Hamilton Health Sciences accredited Psychology internship program. Specific activities will include: ensuring the programs developed and implemented are in accordance with regulations of the College of Psychologists and the guidelines established by Ministry funders.

  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (Clinical Psychology or Clinical

Neuropsychology)

  • Ph.D or Psy.D. in Psychology
  • Recognized specialty in pediatric / developmental psychological assessment and treatment
  • Extensive knowledge and current experience in the assessment, diagnosis and evidence based treatment of complex neuro-developmental and/cognitive disorders in the pediatric population.
  • Demonstrated strength in consultation, teaching, conflict resolution skills, team building, teamwork and in the supervision of advanced learners
  • Experience in treatment modalities involving individual, group and family/education treatment processes
  • Demonstrated competency and experience in the administration and interpretation of psychological testing, particularly those tests relevant to the assessment of cognitive abilities, emotional, behavioural and social functioning
  • Demonstrated strength in consultation, teaching, teamwork and in the supervision of advanced learners
  • Eligible for part-time appointment with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University
  • Willingness to participate in a criminal reference screening process
  • Fluency in French will be considered an asset
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS)

Unit Summary

Developmental Pediatrics and Rehabilitation Services is a portfolio within McMaster Children’s Hospital. It is comprised of many different programs providing outpatient services to children with developmental, cognitive, emotional or behavioural, physical or communication needs. Our services have strong links with McMaster University’s Departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry, and the Offord Centre for Child Studies, an internationally acclaimed research centre focused on children with emotional and behavioural problems.
